Job description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Safely and efficiently handles and packs finished goods into shipping boxes per customer specifications to ensure quality products are produced at a consistent rate of speed and in accordance with machine standards and production goals.


SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reviews and follows job ticket instructions for each production run to determine the size, quantity, stack pattern and labeling instructions required to pack and/or shrink wrap before shipment.
  • Assembles corrugated shipping cases and places on conveyor at a consistent rate of speed to adequately supply packing line with the cases needed.
  • Safely and efficiently handles and packs converted material into shipping cases, picks up finished goods from conveyor, fills and stacks case uniformly ensuring proper count, stack pattern and fit.
  • Ensures efficient and proper sealing as case moves through tape machine; maintains tape machine and reports any issues to supervisor and submit work orders to the maintenance department as needed.
  • Safely and securely stacks cases on pallet and ensures proper tags are securely fastened to completed pallets.
  • Regularly rotates through different responsibilities and on different packing lines as instructed by Supervisor or Lead; assists with packing, stacking and/or feeding product through other converting machines or shrink wrap machines as assigned.
  • Maintains quality standards by understanding defective characteristics of products, sorting defective parts, and communicating with Supervisor, Lead, or Quality Manager when quality issues arise.
  • Consistently performs required quality checks for fulfillment prior to and throughout production runs correcting issues when identified.
  • Ensures that finished products with defects are properly scrapped and discarded while consistently following procedures to minimize waste.
  • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; uses situational awareness and actively looks for weak signals to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; advises Supervisor or Lead immediately of any information regarding the safety of the machine or machine crew.
  • Consistently wears appropriate PPE for the task at hand and within the assigned area.
  • Assists, as needed, with coordinating and communicating rotation assignments with other members of the packing crew to alternate packing and stacking duties on each production line.
  • Records production data and provides comments for each production job in the manufacturing computer system; completes production report and ensures accuracy with reporting of production data; sets up and uses various scanners as needed.
  • Actively seeks and adopts new updates and improvements to processes, new procedures, and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation; completes all safety, equipment or company training as required.
  • Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S program.
  • Actively collaborates and effectively communicates with others throughout the plant to improve operations, reduce waste, maintain lean manufacturing goals, maintain safe working conditions, and answer questions.
  • Utilizes any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a Supervisor.

AUTHORITY: Must have the ability to lead others that have been placed with them to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training in a production or manufacturing environment. Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to utilize software.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
