Job description

The Packing Foreman is responsible for managing all of the employees on the packing line and ensuring that product meets quality specification. The successful individual must have a passion to lead and look for ways to improve day-to-day operations, be flexible in the hours and days they work and be available, as needed, for inter-company work or weekend work, as deemed necessary by the company/customer needs. This person must monitor, manage a safe, efficient, continuous operation of the plant production areas while maintaining King's Hawaiian safety and quality standards. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
Responsibilities:

  • Champion personnel safety in the work area by understanding and complying with safety procedures.
  • Be a champion of the Quality, Food Safety, and Production programs.
  • Responsible for Quality and Food Safety functions as outlined in Safe Quality Food (SQF) Program.
  • Understand and comply with all general and specific policies that apply to your job and staff.
  • Oversee the proper operation of the packaging functional area to achieve key performance indicators in Safety, Quality, and Performance.
  • Have a complete knowledge of the packaging process to include standard operating conditions of machinery and standard work assignments of operators and packaging helpers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized functional area.
  • Conduct pre-shift safety meetings and conduct group trainings.
  • Ensure all personnel are fit for duty and fully comply with safety and Good Manufacturing Practices requirements.
  • Lead pre-shift stretching routines.
  • Ensure all personnel have access to and use the proper Personal Protective Equipment for the job they are performing.
  • Track availability of supplies and tools and request resupply/replacement as necessary.
  • Make job assignments and execute rotation plan to comply with labor laws and prevent prolonged periods of repetitive motion.
  • Review packaging material requirements and inventory levels to ensure there is sufficient availability of the correct material on hand.
  • Ensure the proper movement of inventory physically and systematically.
  • Continually manage workforce to complete standard and non-standard tasks.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on standard work requirements and ergonomic best practices to packaging employees.
  • Collaborate with production supervisor, temporary agency representative and other functional areas to address staffing shortages or excess.
  • Provide new employees (full-time and temporary) on-the-job training that clearly idenitifes the safety, quality, and performance expectations of the assigned tasks.
  • Assist and provide the necessary resources to train new employees or employees who change job classifications.
  • Collaborate with supervisor on performance improvement plans for operators and packaging helpers.
  • Provide feedback to the temporary agency representative on temporary associate performance.
  • Maintain weekly personnel schedules based on production headcount requirements.
  • Provide temporary staffing requirements to the temporary staffing agency representative to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained.
  • Provide continual oversight and training of staff in order to increase their levels of knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ensure operators setup and run equipment according to standard operating conditions.
  • Ensure operators properly complete quality and production checks and take immediate action to correct deficiencies.
  • Ensure operators record waste and downtime in the appropriate data system.
  • Ensure operators perform data analysis to improve product quality and reduce losses.
  • Lead periodic huddles to drive continuous improvement in conjunction with other functional areas and support departments to achieve key performance indicators.
  • Report all hazardous situations or safety incidents to the production supervisor.
  • Report all quality deviations to the production supervisor and the quality department.
  • Report all mechanical deviations to the production supervisor and the maintenance department.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Provide first aid for minor injuries.
  • Assist or lead during an emergency or natural disaster to maintain order and security of plant personnel.
  • Adhere to and be a champion for all food safety, quality assurance and quality control protocols.
  • Report all harassment or violation of core values to the production supervisor and/or Human Resources department.
  • Perform additional tasking as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Report to work physically and mentally ready to do the job in a substance free environment.
  • Available for overtime and weekend work as directed by the production supervisor or the production plan.

The responsibilities associated with this job will change from time to time in accordance with the Company's business needs. More specifically, the incumbent may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those set forth above.
Skills/Work Experience:
  • High School or GED.
  • 3-5 years of years of production manufacturing experience required.
  • 1-3 of experience with specific experience managing the production lines required.
  • Food industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate orally in English.
  • Ability to speak effectively in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to add, subtract, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint.
  • Ability to use a tablet and/or scan gun to perform quality and production tasks.
  • Ability to work safely and comply with all safety regulations.
  • Ability to set-up and operate various manufacturing equipment.
  • Forklift/Electric Pallet Jack Certification preferred.
  • Proactive attitude with attention to detail.
  • Experience in managing people and working well with others as well as ability to self-motivate and work alone.

Pay- $28.12 per hour
