Job description

The Engineering Manager, Current Products serves as the organization's primary technical authority for all in-production products. This leader is a seasoned automotive design engineer who excels at cross-organizational communication, problem-solving, and rapid issue resolution. They manage engineering changes, customer deviations, supplier-driven updates, and packaging or quality issues that arise in the field or in manufacturing. This role ensures product performance, quality, and customer satisfaction through disciplined engineering leadership and collaborative engagement across Warranty, Manufacturing, Quality, Technical Sales, and Purchasing.
Responsibilities:
Sustaining Engineering & Product Support
  • Owns the engineering lifecycle of all current in-production products, including design updates, cost improvements, and packaging modifications.
  • Serves as the technical point person for resolving product issues identified by Warranty, Quality, Manufacturing, or customers.
  • Analyzes field failures and warranty data to drive root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Leads or approves engineering deviations, concessions, and temporary fixes to keep customers satisfied and production flowing.

Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Acts as the go-to "engineering authority" leadership calls upon for urgent decisions, customer escalations, or product questions.
  • Works closely with Quality to resolve product non-conformances and packaging issues, including development of corrective action plans.
  • Supports Technical Sales with engineering insight, product questions, and customer-facing problem resolution.
  • Collaborates with Purchasing on supplier-driven changes, cost reduction efforts, and qualification of alternate suppliers.
  • Partners with Manufacturing and CI teams during Kaizen events, productivity improvements, or production issue containment.

Engineering Change Management
  • Owns the ECN/ECO process for all sustaining engineering changes, ensuring accurate, timely updates to drawings, BOMs, specifications, and packaging.
  • Reviews and approves documentation to ensure compliance with design intent and product performance requirements.
  • Ensures cross-functional alignment on change impact, validation needs, and launch timing.

Customer & Field Support
  • Provides technical expertise during customer complaints, escalations, and product investigations.
  • Evaluates, approves, and communicates deviations, concessions, and special engineering dispositions.
  • Partners with customer-facing teams to keep customers informed, satisfied, and confident in product integrity.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; master's preferred.
  • 7+ years automotive, performance parts, or mechanical product engineering experience.
  • Strong background in sustaining engineering, ECNs, engineering documentation, and product lifecycle activities.
  • Demonstrated experience resolving customer and field issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on experience with packaging engineering considerations and product/packaging interface quality.
  • Strong communicator capable of influencing Quality, Operations, Sales, Purchasing, and leadership.
  • Proven track record of managing deviations, concessions, or temporary engineering approvals.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Excellent CAD literacy (SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with GD&T, FEA, and validation testing.
