What You'll Do

Sol de Janeiro is seeking a curious, detail-oriented Fragrance Product Development Intern to support our Fragrance Product Development team. Working under the direction of the Senior Manager, Fragrance Product Development, the intern will gain hands-on exposure to the end-to-end fragrance product development process. 

This role is designed for someone passionate about fragrance who wants to build foundational experience in product development, fragrance creation, fragrance evaluation, cross-functional collaboration, manufacturing scale up, and the day-to-day execution of fragrance product development. You will support and learn fragrance development across the entire Sol de Janeiro portfolio from perfume mists to body and hair products. This role will support the Fragrance

What You'll Be Working On

These duties may be reviewed and modified from time to time based on mutual needs. 

  • Fragrance Development Support: Assist the team across the end-to-end product development process for fragrance development, including sample organization, internal and external meetings support, technical transfers, and launch preparation. You will work in fragrance development across all products including - perfume mists, innovation, body and hair products. 
  • Fragrance Evaluation: Support the organization of fragrance evaluation. Evaluate alongside the Fragrance Development Team and assist in documenting and organizing scent assessments, olfactive notes, and feedback to support the team's development decisions. 
  • Trend Research: Monitor and summarize emerging fragrance trends, technologies, ingredients, and best practices, sharing insights with the team to inform development. 
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Help coordinate across internal teams - Packaging Development, Project Management, Product Marketing, Creative, and Supply Chain - to support seamless coordination throughout the product development lifecycle. 
  • Project & Timeline Support: Support the Fragrance Development Team maintain on time project milestones by maintaining development trackers and project documents, and help ensure multiple projects progress on schedule. 
  • Vendor & Sample Management: Assist in organizing and cataloguing fragrance house submissions and contract manufacturer samples; support communication with external partners under the guidance of the Fragrance Development Team. 
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare meeting agendas and notes, organize development files and technical documentation, and help assemble presentation materials for internal reviews. 
  • Lab & Sample Organization: Maintain an organized sample library, assist with physical sample handling and labeling, and keep the development workspace orderly. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Must Haves 

Required 

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a degree program in Cosmetics, Fragrance, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or a related  
  • Passion for fragrance 
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). 
  • Ability to work onsite at our New York office. 
  • Self-motivated 

Preferred 

  • Basic familiarity with fragrance evaluation concepts (e.g., fragrance families, top/heart/base notes, olfactive vocabulary) - formal training or coursework in fragrance evaluation is a strong plus. 
  • An interest to learn fragrance evaluation. 
  • Prior coursework, workshop, or internship experience in fragrance, beauty, or cosmetic product development. 
  • Familiarity with product development lifecycles in beauty or personal care.
