Job description

System One is seeking a System Design Engineer to support advanced nuclear reactor development. This role will support the Sodium Processing Systems team, focusing on system design, vendor coordination, and integration of hardware into overall plant system architecture for a next-generation nuclear reactor program.

This position works closely with engineering teams and equipment suppliers to ensure system designs meet technical requirements, regulatory standards, and project schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Design nuclear and industrial systems from requirements development through final design.

  • Provide technical oversight to vendors developing mechanical systems and components.

  • Coordinate review of engineering analyses including thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, and heat transfer.

  • Integrate as-designed hardware into overall plant system design.

  • Identify and apply appropriate design codes and standards including ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, and NFPA.

  • Analyze regulatory requirements and incorporate them into complex system designs.

  • Support project planning and maintain schedule adherence for system design activities.

  • Manage drawing packages including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings.

  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier deliverables and coordinate technical reviews.

  • Develop and maintain system requirements and engineering design specifications for plant equipment.

  • Support development and execution of system testing and qualification programs.

  • Generate design packages including calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and specifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university.

  • 4+ years of engineering experience in system design or mechanical/chemical process systems.

  • Experience with fluid systems, chemical process systems, or mechanical system design.

  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation.

  • Ability to coordinate cross-disciplinary engineering activities.

  • Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple technical tasks in a multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-temperature systems or advanced nuclear reactor systems.

  • Experience integrating vendor-designed equipment into plant systems.

  • Familiarity with ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 quality standards.

  • Experience supporting engineering design documentation and system qualification testing.
