Job description

The PACE Driver will provide transportation, delivery, and escort services for participants enrolled in the NEMS Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).ย 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Safely and efficiently transports participants, medications, meals, medical supplies and equipment, laundry or other approved items between home and the PACE center, NEMS clinics, and other various medical locations per requests by the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), in compliance with CA Department of Motor Vehicles, California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regulations, while adhering to scheduled routes and times corresponding to patientsโ€™ appointments.
  • Safely assists participants in boarding and disembarking NEMS vehicles according to the IDTโ€™s Care Plan and ensure use of safety belts, wheelchair tie-downs, and other equipment. ย 
  • Observes and promptly reports any safety or behavioral issues, assistance needs, or other factors affecting the quality, timeliness, and safety of passenger transport and material deliveries to the IDT.ย 
  • Maintain the vehicleโ€™s First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher by replenishing supplies as used or replace before expiration.
  • Ensure NEMS vehicles are operating in good mechanical condition with clean and presentable interiors and exteriors.
  • Recognize and address vehicle malfunctions and safety risks, replenish fuel and other fluids as needed, and immediately report any vehicle problems, malfunctions, incidents, violations, collisions, or at-risk situations to the Supervisor.
  • Establish positive rapport with participants, participantsโ€™ families, caregivers, and all members of the NEMS care team, including Transportation and network providers.
  • Utilize Epic appropriately and efficiently, serve as a content and workflow expert for resolving issues and proposing solutions.
  • Stay current with employment and job requirements by maintaining up-to-date, unexpired driver credentials, including external and State licensure.
  • Maintain accurate daily records, vehicle maintenance logs, inspection reports, route details, and fuel records, and support vehicle maintenance appointments. Immediately reports any vehicle operating problems, malfunctions, or incidents.
  • Participate in planning and revising daily transportation routes for improved NEMS Transportation efficiency as needed.
  • Participates and attend IDT meeting when indicated.
  • Promptly reports information about participants to the IDT, such as safety or behavioral issues, assistance needs, and/or other issues impacting the safe trans, or delivery services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, or minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience can be substituted.
  • Valid CA Class C Driverโ€™s license required; Class B license preferred (no violations within the last 5 years)
  • Documentations of Basic Life Support and First Aid (from accredited organizations) are required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to operate mid to large size vehicle and possess general automobile mechanism knowledge.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, Monday through Friday, and occasional Saturday.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with staff and patients/participants to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team to network with other drivers and NEMS staff.
  • Knowledge of assisting patients or persons with special-needs populations, including individuals with mobility limitations or medical conditions preferred.

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience transporting passengers.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics for assisting seniors and persons with mobility limitations
  • One-year experience with the elderly. Knowledge of working with special needs populations, including individuals with Dementia.

LANGUAGE:

  • Must be able to fluently speak & listen, minimum read & write in English.
  • Fluency in Chinese/Vietnamese/Spanish preferred.
  • Fluency in other languages is an asset.

STATUS:

  • This is a FLSA Non-exempt position.
  • This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
  • This is a Full Time position.
