Supervisor

SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing or overseeing the analysis, administration, and oversight of laboratory, services, field, or testing policies, programs, and practices. Provides guidance and direction to employees and management using professional and technical knowledge of environmental, biological, chemical, and related disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, compensation recommendations, and performance management.
  • Oversee operations across laboratory, services, and field functions, including testing, scheduling, inventory, communication, and coordination.
  • Conduct research and provide guidance to resolve employee, management, and customer questions; coordinate resources and responses as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy of testing, databases, reports, and operational details through audits, queries, and reviews; collaborate with teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Review, process, and oversee a broad range of tests, forms, documents, databases, and related information.
  • Provide analysis, interpretation, and guidance to staff and leadership on policies, programs, and practices across lab, services, field, or testing functions.
  • Analyze operational data, results, and feedback to identify trends, draw conclusions, and present recommendations to management.
  • Support development and execution of department or cross-functional projects, including budgets, timelines, staffing, and materials.
  • Interpret and apply policies, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations; seek guidance when needed.
  • Contribute to departmental efficiency and service effectiveness through continuous improvement and active team participation.
  • Promote and support Pace Analytical’s mission through professional, cooperative interactions that foster a positive work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field; AND five (5) years of laboratory, services, field, or testing experience, including work with complex programs or operations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Two (2) years of team leadership experience is strongly preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Administration and oversight of related programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Methods for resolving complex operational and technical issues.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Vision to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Hearing and verbal communication skills for in-person and telephone interactions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in laboratory, services, field, and office settings. Exposure to blood or bodily fluids, chemicals, fumes, gases, noxious odors, and related environmental conditions may occur.
