Position Summary
The Sports Information Assistant is a part-time student worker responsible for assisting with the execution of home athletic events and supporting the Athletic Communications Office. This position plays an important role in creating a professional game-day experience through live event operations, video production, scoreboard management, statistics support, public address operations, and other communications responsibilities.
Student workers will receive hands-on experience in collegiate athletic communications while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Game Day Operations
  • Assist with pre-game setup of athletic venues, including tables, chairs, sound system, scoreboard, cameras, computers, and other event equipment.
  • Ensure all communications equipment is operational prior to competition.
  • Support the Director of Athletic Communications during home contests.
  • Assist with post-game breakdown and proper storage of equipment.

Event Support
  • Serve in a variety of game-day roles, including:
    • Camera operator
    • Scoreboard operator
    • Music operator
    • Public Address (PA) assistant
    • Spotter for statistics
    • Livestream support
    • Other event management duties as assigned
  • Troubleshoot basic technical or equipment issues during contests.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to coaches, officials, student-athletes, and spectators.

Communications Support
  • Assist with statistics, video, photography, and social media content as assigned.
  • Help maintain a professional game-day atmosphere.
  • Represent Sweet Briar College Athletics in a positive and professional manner.

Position Requirements
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays during the athletic season.
  • Availability to work the majority of Sweet Briar College home athletic contests during the academic year.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule
This is a part-time student employment position. Hours vary based on the athletics competition schedule and primarily include afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Work schedules are coordinated through the Director of Athletic Communications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in athletics, sports media, communications, broadcasting, or event management.
  • Knowledge of collegiate athletics is preferred.
  • Experience with computers, cameras, livestreaming, or audiovisual equipment is helpful but not required.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and software.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
