Leveraging project management software, establishing regular status meetings, and fostering open communication with stakeholders are effective strategies to manage these challenges and ensure successful project delivery.

What is a PPM engineer?

PPM Engineers, or Project Portfolio Management Engineers, are professionals who oversee and optimize a company's portfolio of projects to ensure they align with business objectives and deliver value. They are responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring multiple projects, using specialized software and methodologies to prioritize resources and manage risks. PPM Engineers work closely with project managers, stakeholders, and leadership teams to report on project progress, balance workloads, and make data-driven decisions. Their goal is to maximize efficiency, minimize costs, and ensure strategic alignment across all projects within an organization.

To thrive as a PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance) Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or electrical engineering, strong analytical skills, and relevant engineering qualifications such as a degree or certification. Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), reliability-centered maintenance tools, and industry-standard software is typically required. Effective problem-solving, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help you excel in coordinating maintenance activities and collaborating with cross-functional teams. These competencies ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize maintenance processes for operational efficiency.

Job description

Let's introduce ourselves

As a PPM Engineer within Production Control, the key focus is to align the production plan with demand and optimize shop operational parameters to meet QDFPS targets. This role secures the overall production process by monitoring plan execution across all manufacturing areas and ensuring a stable supply chain flow.

What you'll do
  • Track key performance indicators, lead structured problem solving, and implement corrective actions as needed to support continuous improvement.
  • Document processes and work instructions to support training, with annual reviews to identify change points and efficiency improvements.
  • Represent PPM in cross-functional forums related to the VCCH working schedule, production planning, and production control.
  • Align Master Production Schedule volumes and capacity requirements with HQ in Sweden, Plant Supply Chain, and Charleston production departments.
  • Convert the Master Production Schedule into planned orders within the plant MRP system.
  • Manage the customer order book in close cooperation with HQ in Sweden to support production planning and demand alignment.
  • Execute preliminary and fixed sequence planning to support accurate material requirements and provide input for material call-offs to batch and sequence suppliers.
  • Create and maintain multi-year project plans and pre-series build schedules, facilitating cross-functional meetings (RIM) to align shop activities and schedules with project needs.
  • Report pre-series build status on time and escalate gaps to leadership to drive action and support on-time delivery of vehicles from shop to shop.
  • Accurately manage production system parameters and monitor body flow from weld shop to paint shop and from paint shop to final assembly to secure perfect sequence production.
  • Prepare and publish production schedules for weld shop, paint shop, and final assembly, considering the workday calendar, constraints, and capacities of each planning point.
  • Facilitate crisis management meetings with shop teams when potential downtime or significant quality issues arise, ensuring clear action plans are established to optimize production time.
  • Support plant performance reporting by communicating delivery results, identifying cross-functional gaps, and driving action and problem solving in key areas such as Perfect Sequence and Old Cars.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Engineering, Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field; relevant experience in supply chain, logistics, or engineering may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience, preferably within automotive production planning, supply chain, or logistics.
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry and manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of material planning systems and related production planning processes.
  • Knowledge of PPM (pre-production management) processes.
  • Strong project management and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, supported by strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.
