A&E + SMA Design is seeking a Construction Project Manager III/IV to join our team in Bozeman, MT. We are more than 100 diversely talented professionals committed to delivering exceptional client service, quality design, and innovative solutions throughout the region.
This role is ideal for an experienced construction professional who thrives during the construction phase of project delivery. As the owner's advocate and the design team's construction phase project manager, you'll lead construction phase services for a portfolio of projects throughout southwest Montana and beyond. You'll manage projects from construction kickoff through closeout while building strong relationships with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams.
This position operates with a high degree of autonomy appropriate to a satellite office setting while receiving support and collaboration from the Construction Studio leadership and team. Placement at the Construction Project Manager III or IV level will be based on experience, exposure to a variety of project delivery methods, and demonstrated ability to independently manage complex projects and resolve construction challenges. As part of the firm's Construction Studio, you'll also collaborate with and support fellow Construction Project Managers to ensure successful project delivery across the firm.Â
Requirements

- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferredÂ
- 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in construction management, construction administration, owner's representation, or a related fieldÂ
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple commercial, public, institutional, healthcare, or educational construction projects simultaneouslyÂ
- Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, and the relationship between design intent and construction executionÂ
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (AIA and similar) and their application during the construction phaseÂ
- Knowledge of construction delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, CM/GC, and Design-BuildÂ
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering plans and specificationsÂ
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects during the construction phase as part of a design team, ownership team, and/or contractorÂ
- Exceptional organizational, communication, negotiation, and time-management skillsÂ
- Proven ability to identify issues, evaluate solutions, and resolve complex project challengesÂ
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, contractors, consultants, and internal project teamsÂ
- Experience mentoring junior staff is preferredÂ
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, and construction management platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Build, or ProjectSightÂ
- AIA, PE, PMP, CDT/CCCA, DBIA, or CCM certification preferredÂ
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as requiredÂ
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, or possess a valid U.S. work visa
A day in the life of a Construction Project Manager.
- Lead construction phase services for multiple projects from construction kickoff through closeoutÂ
- Serve as the owner's advocate and the design team's primary construction phase representativeÂ
- Manage submittal reviews, Requests for Information (RFIs), change order evaluations and negotiations, contractor pay application certifications, and project documentationÂ
- Conduct constructability reviews during the design phase and provide recommendations that improve project quality and constructabilityÂ
- Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with contract documents, project specifications, and design intentÂ
- Conduct regular site observations and prepare field reports documenting project progress and issuesÂ
- Lead project meetings, document meeting minutes, and coordinate communication between owners, contractors, consultants, and design teamsÂ
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and internal construction administration efforts while proactively identifying and mitigating project risksÂ
- Conduct final inspections, prepare punch lists, and assist with project closeout activitiesÂ
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants while representing A&E + SMA Design with professionalism and sound judgmentÂ
- Collaborate with and support other Construction Project Managers within the Construction Studio to ensure consistent, high-quality project deliveryÂ
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to the continued growth of the Construction StudioÂ
- Uphold and promote A&E + SMA Design's culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and exceptional client service
- This position is based in Bozeman, Montana, with a combination of office, field, and client meeting environments.
- Regular travel to project sites throughout the Gallatin Valley is expected, with occasional travel to projects across Montana.
- Work includes periodic site visits involving walking active construction sites and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Typical work schedule is 40 hours per week, with occasional additional hours required to meet project deadlines or attend project meetings.Â
