Job description


Overview: The mechanic services, maintains, and repairs all hydraulic, electrical and mobile equipment and machinery assigned to the yard department. Improves systems to optimize performance.
Essential functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Maintains equipment in good operating order. All items from inspections are scheduled for repair.
  • Schedule and correct all safety concern items from the “Monthly Safety Inspection Report” on the basis of the hazard classification.
  • Become familiar with all systems including steam, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and water.
  • Keep accurate maintenance logs on all equipment which includes parts lists, specifications, and history of repairs.
  • Keep good inventory or tools and replace when needed.
  • Maintains clean work environment in the mill, shop, and cleans up area when workday is completed.
  • Informs manager(s) of all mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA/Safety procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personnel networks and participating in professional societies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Competencies
  • Ability to complete maintenance tasks on equipment in a punctual, safe manner with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to keep detailed, accurate records.
  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adequate mathematical skills: Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide number.
  • Knowledge of machinery repair highly desirable.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours as required
  • This individual must have the ability to work with a team, or individually.
  • Ability to communicate in English is preferred, not required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks when appropriate.
Supervisory responsibilities
  • None 
Work environment
  • You will be required to work at times in extreme weather conditions, such as rain, snow, wind, heat, cold.
  • You may work with moving parts and components, as well as situations with very high noise frequency.
  • Ability to work nights on occasion, weekends, and holidays.
Physical demands
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work extended hours 10-11 hours per shift
  • This individual must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 lbs

Required education and experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 month’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
