Compensation: $28.00 - $35.00 Hourly + Per Diem + Full Benefits

Job Summary

As the Equipment Operator, you will ultimately be responsible for operating heavy construction equipment to support underground telecommunications and utility construction projects. You will safely perform excavation activities, install underground infrastructure, and assist construction crews while ensuring compliance with company safety standards and project requirements. As the Equipment Operator, your customers are Congruex project teams, utility providers, and broadband operators, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through safe equipment operation, quality workmanship, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)

  • Operate heavy construction equipment in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Load, unload, transport, set up, and safely operate heavy equipment at project sites.
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and documentation for assigned equipment and maintain daily communication with supervisors.
  • Safely operate heavy equipment around active underground utilities while preventing utility strikes.
  • Review project plans and walk proposed work paths to verify utility locations and determine safe excavation methods.
  • Perform excavation activities, including placement of conduit, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring concrete, asphalt placement, rigging, and setting structures.
  • Maintain knowledge and proper use of shoring systems.
  • Adhere to all company policies, OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and project safety requirements.
  • Travel extensively and work overtime or weekends as needed to support project schedules.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A required.
  • DOT Medical Card required.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using locating equipment to identify underground utilities.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment around active underground utilities.
  • Experience with underground utility construction and excavation activities.
  • Knowledge of basic shoring systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment including asphalt rollers, skid steers, backhoes, mini excavators, vacuum trucks, bore machines, and similar construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with underground utility locating systems.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow OSHA, ANSI, and company safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating Ditch Witch and Vermeer equipment.
  • Experience supporting underground telecommunications construction projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible awareness of crew members, vehicles, equipment, and surrounding work areas.
  • Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, pull, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and other required safety gear.
  • Extensive travel required, including overnight travel.
