Job description

Job Title: Utility Locator

Reports To: Construction Manager

Travel Potential: 25–50%

Job Summary:

You will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility infrastructure to support safe excavation, construction, and landscaping activities. This role requires operating company vehicles, utilizing digital utility maps and specialized locating equipment, and ensuring accurate utility identification to prevent damages and maintain safety standards. You will make meaningful contributions to the company’s success through safety, precision, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

• Utilize provided mapping tools, location records, and locating equipment to identify underground utilities including electric, gas, telephone, and communication lines
• Indicate utility locations through the use of paint, flags, and approved marking methods
• Represent Congruex in a positive and professional manner at all times
• Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use
• Perform duties in standard and high-risk work environments
• Travel overnight to various job sites as required
• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Valid unrestricted Driver’s License required
• OSHA 10 certification required

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent underground utility locating experience
• Experience in construction, excavation, or utility infrastructure environments preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Basic computer skills
• Ability to operate locating equipment safely and productively
• Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with crew members, leadership, and clients
• Ability to function effectively as an integral part of a team
• Ability to safely perform physical tasks in outdoor environments year-round

Preferred Qualifications:

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Experience working in high-risk utility locating environments

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, squat, push, pull, and twist for extended periods
• Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions and over uneven terrain
• Must be able to maintain visual and audible awareness of crews, equipment, and surroundings
• Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review
