Position Description
Job Overview:
Our company is seeking a skilled Loader Operator to join our Utility Pipe Crew. The Loader Operator is responsible for operating a wheel loader safely and efficiently to move materials, assist in trenching, and support the pipe crew in the installation of underground utilities, such as storm drains, sanitary sewer, and water mains. This role requires close coordination with ground crews and other heavy equipment operators to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a wheel loader to transport pipe, stone, bedding materials, and other construction materials.
  • Load trucks with aggregates and other materials as required.
  • Backfill trenches and assist with site grading as needed.
  • Support excavation and pipe installation by ensuring proper material placement.
  • Work closely with the pipe crew, foreman, and other equipment operators to maintain productivity and safety.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-operation equipment inspections and report any issues.
  • Follow all OSHA, company, and union safety regulations, including trench safety and equipment operation protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and organized worksite, ensuring efficient movement of materials.
  • Perform basic maintenance, such as greasing and checking fluid levels, to keep equipment in optimal condition.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate tasks and workflow.

Position Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Must be a current union member or willing to join the union upon hire.
  • Experience operating a wheel loader in a highway heavy construction or underground utility setting.
  • Knowledge of safe trenching, excavation, and backfilling practices.
  • Ability to read and follow grade stakes, blueprints, or project specifications.
  • Strong understanding of heavy construction safety procedures and OSHA standards.
  • Must have a valid driver's license; CDL is a plus.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift heavy materials as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Experience working on large infrastructure or highway projects.
  • Familiarity with GPS machine control systems is a plus.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
