Community Technician
Full-Time | 37.5 hours/week | 24/7 Program | Mandatory Overtime
Make a Difference Every Shift
At BRC, every shift matters. As a Community Technician, you're a consistent, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness-often supporting people in moments of crisis, uncertainty, or transition.
This hands-on, frontline role is ideal for those interested in social work, human services, public health, or emergency response. No prior shelter experience required-just strong judgment, empathy, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
What You'll Do
  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan - training provided)
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep

What You'll Gain
  • Experience in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and crisis intervention
  • BRC-sponsored certifications (CPR/First Aid, Narcan, Fire Safety Guard, etc.)
  • Clear pathways to case management, senior roles, and leadership
  • Structured training, onboarding, and team support
  • Tuition assistance and professional development

Who We're Looking For
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications

Preferred:
  • Experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use populations
  • Security Guard license, Food Handler Certificate, or similar certifications
  • Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply

Schedule
  • Full-time, 37.5 hours/week
  • Morning, evening, and overnight shifts available
  • Mandatory overtime required

What We Offer
  • Health and dental insurance starting Day One
  • 3+ weeks vacation, 12 holidays, plus sick and personal time
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match
  • Tuition assistance and paid training opportunities
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (healthcare, transit, childcare)
  • A mission-driven team committed to staff wellbeing
