Job description

We Make Everything Around Us Better

At PRIME AE, that’s not a slogan, it’s how we work.

Every bridge, building, campus, park, and roadway we design exists to improve how people live, move, learn, and connect. Through architecture, engineering, planning, and consulting, we partner with clients to create thoughtful, practical solutions that leave communities stronger than we found them.

If you want your work to matter, and to be surrounded by smart, collaborative people who care about doing things the right way, you’ll feel at home here.

Who We Are:

PRIME AE Group, Inc. is a nationally ranked, full-service architecture and engineering firm with 24 offices across 10 states and a team of 500+ professionals. For nearly two decades, we’ve partnered with public and private sector clients across transportation, education, healthcare, municipal, federal, commercial, and recreational markets.

We’re growing, strategically and intentionally. That means expanding our capabilities, investing in our people, and building teams that are positioned for long-term success.

The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Bridge Inspector to join our Bridge Inspection Group in our New Albany or Indianapolis, IN or Jacksonville, FL offices. This is an opportunity to contribute to critical infrastructure safety by inspecting bridges and related structures, ensuring they meet federal, state, and local requirements. As part of our collaborative team, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate assessments, well-documented reports, and supporting safe, efficient transportation networks across the region.

What You’ll Do:

As a Bridge Inspector, you will perform hands-on structural safety inspections for various transportation agencies. You’ll also assist in planning and executing inspection programs, coordinating access logistics, and preparing detailed inspection documentation. This role offers a mix of office and fieldwork, with occasional night work and overnight travel assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and fracture-critical bridge and structural safety inspections in accordance with FHWA, state, and agency standards.
  • Assist in developing inspection schedules and coordinating with clients and stakeholders to meet project requirements.
  • Arrange access equipment (lifts, snoopers, boats, climbing gear) and traffic control setups to ensure safe inspection practices.
  • Assist in securing necessary permits, including railroad and agency access, in advance of inspections.
  • Collect, document, and evaluate field data; prepare comprehensive inspection reports with findings, photos, and recommendations.
  • Identify deficiencies, deterioration, or structural concerns and communicate findings promptly to project managers and clients.
  • Support project managers in estimating inspection hours, preparing proposals, and meeting project deadlines.
  • Adhere to all company and agency safety standards, including the use of PPE and fall protection equipment.
  • Work closely with team members and engineers to develop solutions for repair, rehabilitation, or replacement needs.
  • Participate in occasional night work or overnight travel assignments as required by project scope.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Preferred.
  • NHI certifications for the inspection of bridges, culverts, highway structures, NSTM’s, and tunnels preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years bridge inspection experience required; familiarity with NBIS standards is a plus.
  • Physical ability to work in demanding field environments (heights, confined spaces, outdoor conditions).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight as needed.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Experience utilizing web-based software for asset management information input and report generation preferred.

Why PRIME AE:

We don’t just fill positions; we invest in people.

At PRIME AE, you’ll find a supportive, flexible environment where careers are built intentionally, not accidentally. You’ll work on projects that improve everyday life, alongside colleagues who challenge and respect one another.
