Location Details: 79 Jefferson St HH Bliss Wing (10064)

Shift Information: 2-8’s, 2-12 hour shifts. A mix of day and evening shifts with occasional night rotations as necessary. Every third weekend involves calls and/or shifts, along with a weekday overnight call rotation.

Job Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in providing support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring the availability and proper setup of surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room for each procedure; assisting the surgeon during operations in accordance with professional and legal standards; and helping to clean the operating room post-surgery, ensuring the correct handling of equipment and materials. This position reports directly to the Manager.

Our Core Operating Room department consists of around 80 highly skilled professionals who work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical environment. We handle a variety of specialties, including general surgery, gynecology, urology, plastic surgery, bariatrics, robotics, thoracics, trauma, and transplant. Our team thrives on the diversity and complexity of surgical cases, functioning as integral members of a multidisciplinary team that includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support staff to deliver top-notch medical and surgical care in our region. With a high volume of 60-80 surgical cases daily, we cater to patients seeking the highest standard of care from a facility equipped with cutting-edge technology and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) is required, or the ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
  • Current CPR and BLS certification, along with participation in annual Validation Day.
  • Familiarity with various surgical procedures, with the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs and recognize potential challenges.
  • Knowledge of the names and functions of surgical instruments and equipment is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strict compliance with policies and regulations regarding the maintenance of a sterile environment is mandatory.
  • Understanding of basic patient care and safety principles.
  • Application of aseptic techniques to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Awareness of emergency situations in the operating room.
