Job description

Overnight Security Officer - 77024

United Protective Services is seeking a reliable, professional, and observant Overnight Security Officer to provide security services for a residential apartment community.

This is an active patrol position requiring frequent foot patrols throughout the property. The Security Officer will help maintain a safe and secure environment for residents, guests, employees, and property management by monitoring the community, identifying suspicious or unusual activity, enforcing property rules, and documenting all security-related activity.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently overnight, interacting professionally with residents and guests, and responding appropriately to disturbances, trespassing, suspicious activity, and other security concerns.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular and thorough foot patrols throughout the apartment community, including common areas, parking areas, building interiors, stairwells, amenity areas, and other designated locations.
  • Monitor the property for suspicious activity, unauthorized persons, trespassers, disturbances, safety hazards, property damage, and other unusual conditions.
  • Check doors, gates, access points, and other designated areas to identify security concerns or irregularities.
  • Respond to resident complaints, noise disturbances, suspicious activity, and other security-related calls for service.
  • Direct or escort trespassers from the property when appropriate and contact law enforcement when required.
  • Follow established procedures regarding criminal trespass warnings and law-enforcement involvement.
  • Observe parking areas for suspicious activity, vehicle burglaries, vandalism, unauthorized activity, and other security concerns.
  • Identify and immediately report maintenance or safety concerns discovered during patrols, including water leaks, damaged doors or gates, lighting issues, fire hazards, and other abnormal conditions.
  • Complete accurate and detailed Daily Activity Reports, patrol documentation, and incident reports as required.
  • Immediately report significant incidents or emergencies to the appropriate United Protective Services supervisor, property management representative, emergency service, or law-enforcement agency.
  • Communicate effectively with United Protective Services management, property management, fellow officers, residents, and emergency personnel.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Must be physically capable and willing to perform frequent foot patrols throughout the entire shift.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly climb stairs, bend, stoop, and navigate multiple areas of the property.
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when handling disturbances, confrontational individuals, emergencies, and unexpected situations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and follow established procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write clear, detailed, and accurate security reports.
  • Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills when interacting with residents and guests.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
