Summary

The Overnight Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for hotel guests, members, visitors, and team members during overnight hours. This position protects company assets, responds to emergencies, monitors property activity, and serves as the primary security presence throughout the night. The officer is also responsible for staffing the security gate/booth, controlling property access, and conducting routine patrols of the hotel and surrounding grounds.
The base wage for this role is $21.95 per hour with an additional $1.00 per hour when working the overnight shift.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Patrol all hotel buildings, parking lots, garages, and exterior grounds on a scheduled basis.

  • Maintain a visible security presence to deter criminal activity and ensure guest safety.

  • Monitor surveillance cameras and investigate suspicious activity.

  • Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, disturbances, medical calls, and guest requests.

  • Complete detailed Daily Activity Reports (DARs), Incident Reports, and other required documentation before the end of each shift.

  • Preserve evidence and assist law enforcement or emergency responders when necessary.

  • Staff the overnight security booth according to the assigned schedule.

  • Verify the identity and authorization of all guests, members, vendors, contractors, and employees entering the property.

  • Issue visitor passes and provides parking instructions when appropriate.

  • Monitor vehicle traffic entering and exiting the property.

  • Operate gate systems and report any equipment malfunctions immediately.

  • Enforce hotel access policies and politely deny entry to unauthorized individuals.

  • Provide excellent customer service while maintaining security standards.

  • Provide directions and assist guests, members, and visitors with questions.

  • Escort guests or employees when requested.

  • Assist with room lockouts in coordination with Front Desk staff.

  • Respond professionally to guest complaints involving security or safety concerns.

  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.

  • Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, accidents, and other emergency situations.

  • Perform basic first aid and CPR if certified and within company policy.

  • Assist with evacuations and emergency procedures when necessary.

  • Inspect emergency exits, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and other life safety equipment during patrols.

  • Report hazardous conditions immediately.

  • Secure doors, gates, offices, and restricted areas.

  • Monitor vacant rooms and common areas for unauthorized access.

  • Conduct parking enforcement and document violations.

  • Investigate property damage, thefts, lost and found items, and policy violations.

  • Ensure company vehicles and equipment remain secure.

  • Maintain constant communication with hotel departments, management, and emergency responders.

  • Answer security telephone and radio communications promptly.

  • Provide detailed pass-down information to the incoming shift.

  • Notify management of significant incidents immediately.

  • Strong observation and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to enforce policies professionally and respectfully.

  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures.

  • Basic computer skills, including email, incident reporting systems, and surveillance software.

  • Must drive a company vehicle, a valid California Driver's License is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
