Job description

Pilot Or Senior Pilot

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Pilot or Senior Pilot located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. This position will report to the Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot. The pilot will work with the co-pilot in command to ensure the safe outcome of all flights. The incumbent is subject to random drug testing under NPPD's Fitness for Duty Program. Emergency response is required as is weekend and evening availability. Candidate must live within one hour of Columbus or as determined by management and have the ability to take an on-call schedule.

Senior Pilots are directly responsible for the safe execution and piloting of flights to which they are assigned and follow, as well as are experts and advise upon, all flight procedures and flight related policies found in the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) Flight Operations Manual (FOM), the Employee Handbook, and federal, state, and local regulations. Senior Pilots report directly to the Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot and are the final authority in the operation of the aircraft while acting as Pilot-in-Command (PIC). The accountability of this position will be based in safety performance, cost effectiveness of service, and internal customer satisfaction. The Senior Pilot is subjected to random drug testing under NPPD's fitness for duty program, must maintain mental and physical fitness for all assigned duties, and is expected to respond to emergencies, travel, and work a flexible schedule including holiday, weekends and early or late hours. Candidate must live within one hour of Columbus or as determined by management and have the ability to take an on-call schedule.

Education, Training and Experience

Pilot: Per the FAA, incumbents must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. High school diploma or GED required. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and is thereafter subject to random drug testing under NPPD's Fitness for Duty Program. Flight experience documented per Federal Aviation Regulations as follows. Requires a minimum:

  • 2,500 hours total time PIC & SIC (pilot in command plus second in command)
  • 1,500 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) multi-engine
  • 500 hours PIC turbine
  • 50 hours of Garmin G1000 time
  • Successful completion of manufacturer's initial ground training for aircraft being flown upon hiring.
  • Attend and pass a part 142 school in a level c simulator or equivalent at least once a year.
  • Demonstration of experience and capabilities may be required for employment.

Preferred: King Air B200 and G1000 time; currency with King Air B200 and Beechcraft approved ground and flight school.

Senior Pilot Job Requirements/Qualifications

Aircraft: Airline Transport Rating ATP 2,500 Total Hours, 1,500 multi-engine, 500 PIC Turboprop or Jet Two years of flight experience in the NPPD aviation department or other additional flight experience as approved by the Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot Read, write, and speak English Completion of manufacturer's initial ground training for aircraft being flown Attend and pass a part 142 school in a level c simulator or equivalent at least once a year Demonstration of experience and capabilities may be required for employment.

Licenses and/or Certifications

Pilot Required: Commercial Pilot's License with Instrument, Multi-engine, complex, and high-altitude ratings Current FAA Second Class Medical Certification Airline Transport Pilot Certification (ATP) Preferred: Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)/ Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) certification Uncrewed Aerial Systems (drone) FAA part 107 license Senior Pilot FAA Issued ATP- (Airline Transport Rating Multi-engine land) Instrument, multi-engine airplane Current FAA Second Class medical certificate NBAA Safety Manager Certification or equivalent

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Pilot Act as pilot in command per FAR § 91.3 on flights for which the pilot has been scheduled. Make decisions necessary for starting, delaying, or canceling flights when operating conditions dictate based upon information gathered from weather briefings, airport conditions, and pre-flight inspections. Work with assigned crew to ensure the safe outcome of the flight. Ensure the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers. Utilize strong Crew Resource Management (CRM) to lead assigned crew to the safe outcome of the flight. Communicate with the Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot about safety concerns, issues with CRM, or anything that can affect safety. Comply with all applicable regulations and District/department procedures. Perform necessary requirements to maintain IS-BAO Certification. Provide excellent customer service. While not flying, have the ability to help dispatch and receive aircraft. This includes cleaning, restocking, and helping with other tasks around the hangar.

Senior Pilot The duties of the position include but are not limited to: Assumes direct responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all flights to which he/she is assigned and acts at pilot in command (PIC) of the flight. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations and with company flight operations manual (FOM). Know and advise management upon, all flight procedures and flight related policies found in the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) Flight Operations Manual (FOM), the Employee Handbook, and federal, state, and local regulations. Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to other department pilots. Serve as Second in Command (SIC) when assigned and temporarily act as aviation department manager when assigned. Manage the Safety Management system and maintain and advance all safety certifications. Give input and support in the pursuit of new and new levels of certificates. Performs department and operations safety related tasks as assigned. Represent NPPD and the Department in an exemplary manner, interact with internal and external stakeholders congruent with department and managements goals, accommodate passenger needs and advocate for and promote the flight department. Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.
