SCHEDULE: M-F, 7A-3P

WAGE: $14.55

The intent of this position is to provide SCIT Tribal members a 1 year apprenticeship to develop the knowledge and skills to advance to a Building Maintenance Worker position. After completion of the 1 year apprenticeship team members are advanced to a Building Maintenance Worker position. Note that upon completion of the apprenticeship position advancement into a Building Maintenance position may require the team member to be assigned a different shift dependent upon current staffing levels at the time of advancement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete the 1 year apprentice program entailing completion of a variety of work modules that are currently composed of the following: Building Orientation, Safety/SOP Review, Work Protocols, Television Repairs, Plumbing Repairs, Formica Repair, Flooring Repair, Electrical Repairs, Lift Training and Certification, Wallpaper/Painting, Door Repair, Hotel Repairs, Fire Alarm Systems, Power Washer Operation and HVAC Operation.
  • Selected associate will be required to work 1st shift and rotate between hotel and casino maintenance to experience the variety of tasks associated with a Building Maintenance position.
  • Perform housekeeping and grounds work when needed.
  • Abide by all safety regulations.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority. Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Contact with staff and requesting departments about problems with the building and equipment.
  • Contact with all Facility divisions as needed to complete assigned work under each respective module to develop knowledge and repair skills for the Building Maintenance position.
  • Contact with guests while completing guest assistance job requests and completing repairs in occupied guest rooms.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Member.

License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver’s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
  • Tribal Member only position.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with repair equipment.
  • Strenuous physical exertion in climbing ladders and lifting heavy objects.
  • Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
  • Occasionally sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Indoors and outside.
  • Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials
  • Work may be performed in wet, damp and cramped or close work area.
  • Exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials and moving parts may occur.
  • Situations where safety equipment is needed may occur.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Evening, overnight, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
  • Travel may be required.
