Overnight Rf Test Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Overnight RF Test Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overnight RF Test Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, RF theory, troubleshooting, and often a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with RF test equipment (such as spectrum analyzers and network analyzers), automated test systems, and programming languages like Python or LabVIEW is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently during overnight shifts are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate testing, timely issue resolution, and reliable operation of RF systems crucial for continuous production or research environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Overnight RF Test Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Overnight RF Test Engineers often face challenges such as troubleshooting complex equipment issues with limited immediate support, managing fatigue due to unconventional hours, and ensuring consistent communication with daytime teams. To address these, it's important to document test results thoroughly, establish clear handover procedures, and leverage remote support tools. Building strong relationships with both day and night shift colleagues can also help streamline problem-solving and maintain productivity.

What does an Overnight RF Test Engineer do?

An Overnight RF Test Engineer is responsible for testing and analyzing radio frequency (RF) components, systems, or devices during overnight shifts. Their duties include setting up test equipment, running diagnostic tests, troubleshooting performance issues, and documenting results to ensure systems meet technical specifications. Working overnight ensures continuous operations and helps companies meet tight production schedules. These engineers typically work in industries such as telecommunications, aerospace, or electronics manufacturing.

What is the difference between Overnight Rf Test Engineer vs Rf Test Technician?

AspectOvernight Rf Test EngineerRf Test Technician
CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field, certifications may be preferredAssociate's degree or technical certification in electronics or RF testing
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, testing facilities, often overnight shifts for continuous testingTesting labs, production lines, hands-on testing environment
ResponsibilitiesDesigning, analyzing, and overseeing RF tests, troubleshooting complex issuesPerforming RF tests, recording data, maintaining test equipment

While both roles involve RF testing, the Overnight Rf Test Engineer typically handles complex testing procedures, analysis, and design oversight, often working overnight shifts. The Rf Test Technician focuses on executing tests, data collection, and equipment maintenance. The engineer role requires more advanced education and analytical skills, whereas the technician role emphasizes hands-on testing and operational tasks.

Job description

Job Title: RF Test Engineer

Position Overview We are seeking a smart, hungry, and humble RF Test Engineer to support advanced RF and microwave device characterization.

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical aptitude with a driven, self-motivated attitude and a genuine willingness to learn and collaborate. In this role, you will build, adapt, and operate specialized test equipment, perform complex measurements, and help develop innovative custom test setups. The ideal candidate brings sharp problem-solving skills, takes ownership of their work, and approaches every challenge with curiosity and humility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate specialized RF and microwave test equipment with precision and care.
  • Perform complex electrical and RF measurements using a variety of laboratory instruments.
  • Apply strong working knowledge of test requirements, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Maintain test equipment and keep the work area organized and efficient.
  • Use computers for data entry, analysis, and operation of laboratory software tools.
  • Review test data, examine samples, and collaborate closely with supervisors and team members.
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions.
  • Operate advanced test instruments, including:
    • Network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, noise analyzers
    • Impedance analyzers and microwave probes
    • Oscilloscopes, multimeters, and temperature measurement devices
  • Support advanced RF measurement activities such as power/load-pull testing, noise parameter measurements, and pulsed RF testing.

What We're Looking For (Desired Qualifications)

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Training or hands-on experience with RF and microwave measurements.
  • Practical experience in a corporate or laboratory environment is highly valued, particularly with:
    • Power and load-pull measurements
    • Noise parameter characterization
    • Pulsed RF testing

Our Culture We value team members who are smart (technically excellent and quick learners), hungry (proactive, driven, and eager to take on new challenges), and humble (team-oriented, open to feedback, and always willing to help others). If you're the type of person who brings high energy, intellectual curiosity, and a collaborative spirit to everything you do, you'll thrive here.

Location & Benefits This position is located in beautiful Tampa Bay, Florida. We offer a competitive salary (negotiable based on experience and degree level) along with a comprehensive benefits package including vacation, health, life, disability, and retirement plans.

Note: U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency is required for this position.
