Job description

Seeking a detail oriented estimator with experience in takeoffs, cost analysis, and construction methods to support bid preparation, improve competitiveness, and contribute to successful project execution. Prepare accurate and timely portions of contract proposals and estimates across industry market segments. Determine applicable project plans and specifications with minimal supervision within assigned discipline

Primary duties & responsibilities:

  • Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions and gather input from field operations for estimates

  • Organize and attend site visits to understand scope when required

  • Analyze and compile cost data including labor, materials, equipment, and location factors

  • Evaluate alternative construction methods to improve bid competitiveness

  • Review takeoff quantities to ensure accuracy

  • Solicit pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers

  • Use cost history to validate estimates

  • Perform advanced mathematical calculations for accurate cost estimation

  • Analyze and communicate bidding risks and strategies to senior leadership

  • Participate in estimate and bid reviews with leadership

  • Analyze competition and communicate with stakeholders to ensure competitive bids

  • Communicate estimate details to field teams during pre construction meetings

  • Prepare discipline specific estimates with complete scope takeoffs

  • Maintain estimate documentation and supplier pricing records in company database

  • Support team members to ensure project success

  • Review and recommend design options based on cost and feasibility

  • Coordinate with project management during project kickoff and execution

  • Maintain historical cost database for future estimates

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers

  • Participate in industry and community engagement activities

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Skills & knowledge:

  • Experience with project estimating and takeoffs preferred

  • Strong knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control

  • Ability to interpret cost data and systems

  • Experience with estimating software such as Accubid and Bid2Win preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles

  • Basic understanding of electrical and underground construction

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Education, qualifications, & experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical training and experience

  • 2 to 5 years of estimating, controls, or engineering experience in construction related projects

Working conditions:

  • Primarily office based with occasional job site visits

  • May require local or remote travel including overnight stays

  • Standard business hours with occasional evenings and weekends to meet deadlines

  • Up to 10 percent domestic travel

Physical requirements:

  • Frequent talking, hearing, and visual tasks

  • Frequent use of hands for tools and equipment

  • Regular standing, walking, sitting, and reaching

  • Occasional lifting up to 20 to 50 pounds

  • Regular computer or tablet use

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills for reporting

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
