In your role as Senior Manager, Digital Solutions for Software Development, you will be responsible for leading and developing proprietary, custom applications that power our day-to-day business, connecting operational data to enable business decisions and drive outcomes that improve the performance and availability of over 160 renewable energy sites with 13GW of wind, solar, and battery assets. You will serve as the domain solution architect, actively collaborate with business stakeholders, and partner with technologists to define and implement the go-forward technical strategy for Engineering & Operations applications. You will guide and grow a team of technical experts to develop products and applications using Agile practices and enhance interdisciplinary collaboration across different teams.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Product & Team Leadership: Lead multiple application development teams within the Engineering & Operations portfolio, ensuring coordinated delivery and strategic alignment with business stakeholders to optimize the development and operations of renewable energy sites
  • Architecture Modernization: Develop and execute technical roadmap and architecture refresh initiatives to improve design robustness, scalability, and maintainability to support asset growth and demand
  • Mentorship & Talent Development: Mentor and coach software engineers from entry level through senior, and provide direction to third-party engineers to reduce knowledge silos
  • Agile & DevOps Excellence: Standardize Agile and DevOps practices across teams, using industry metrics (e.g., DORA) to improve velocity, quality, and uptime
  • Operational Accountability: Own software Azure spend and drive reliability engineering practices to achieve 99.9% availability, including comprehensive monitoring and distributed tracing
  • Security, Risk & Compliance: Ensure adherence to cybersecurity standards and manage technology risk and compliance requirements across the portfolio
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration with business stakeholders, RWE IT/OT departments, and the RWE Group to enable iterative delivery and continuous feedback
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Oversee the full product lifecycle from concept through delivery, operations, and retirement, ensuring each stage meets quality, budget, and timeline targets
  • Budget & Financial Stewardship: Develop, manage, and monitor budgets across multiple product lines, ensuring cost efficiency while meeting strategic objectives
  • Escalation & Issue Resolution: Serve as a senior escalation point for complex technical or delivery issues, ensuring timely root-cause analysis and resolution
  • Integration & Interoperability: Ensure interoperability and integration between systems, applications, and platforms to support enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvement initiatives to increase delivery efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance system reliability
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Engage senior business stakeholders to align technology priorities with evolving business strategies

Job Requirements and Experiences:
Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field of study is required
  • Relevant industry training and certifications (Cloud Architect, Agile Leadership, etc.) are a strong plus

Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant software development experience, with a strong preference for prior people management experience
  • Proven track record of setting strategic direction, orchestrating cross-functional teams, and delivering complex, high-impact initiatives in partnership with internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Cloud-Native Development: Proven experience developing complex Linux applications and leading product teams building and maintaining cloud-native distributed software applications. Event-driven architecture, domain-driven design, and leading event storming exercises are a must
    • Cloud Platforms & Orchestration: Strong knowledge of Azure or Cloud services, container orchestration (Kubernetes/AKS), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform/Helm), and workflow automation (Airflow)
    • Programming Languages: Ability to code in multiple programming languages, including C#, ASP.NET, React, SQL, Go, and Python
    • API & Web Services: Good understanding of web services protocols, including REST, WebSockets, SignalR, AMQP, and API design for extensibility and portability
  • Experience in managing platform solutions and products, ensuring operational excellence, availability, and reliability for big tech / large-scale energy/utility companies
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing agile frameworks at scale within IT organizations
  • Extensive technical expertise of SDLC, including security, software development trends, and developer efficiency
  • Excellent communications, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
