Job description

Backup Pack-Smart Operator

The primary responsibilities of a Backup Pack-Smart Operator include setting up, operating, and troubleshooting machinery to produce high-quality products.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Set up work area and machines with minimal assistance.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to lead a team of up to five operators when needed.
  • Preference for automated/PC based machines with vision systems.
  • Technical knowledge of how machines work.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to make physical adjustments to the machine.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to read and comprehend data.
  • Make camera adjustments as needed.
  • Run and review first article and/or data proofs.
  • Audit quality for operations on both sides of running machine.
  • Ownership for quality and production.
  • Safety first mentality.
  • Perform these and other duties as assigned by Supervisor or other appropriate management personnel.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years' experience in a high-volume and progressive manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred operating experience on complex machinery with folder gluers and camera inspection systems (Examples include Otto Kunnecke Machines, Precision Redline Machines, Kirk Rudy Machines, Massman Automation).
  • Preferred experience working with machines with data.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Advanced math and reading skills with the ability to read and understand work and safety instructions in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities at various stages of complexity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills combined with structured problem solving and the ability to determine root cause, containment, and corrective actions.
  • Proficient Excel and overall computer skills.

The employee may be exposed to minimal chemical smells and paper dust. The employee must be prepared to respond to emergencies should they occur. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
