Job description

A day in the life

Join our Automation group and help keep a world-class optical fiber operation running flawlessly. Your morning might start by reviewing overnight system logs, checking backups, and scanning production dashboards. By mid-day, you could be rolling out a PLC logic update to a line controlled by Rockwell Allen-Bradley, Schneider, or Siemens hardware, then partnering with technical staff to squash a tricky equipment or control software issue on the floor. In the afternoon, you may be commissioning a new piece of production equipment and validating PC-to-PLC data exchanges before closing the loop with stakeholders.

What you will own
  • Develop and maintain PLC programs used by production and facilities to control manufacturing processes and support equipment.
  • Provide hands-on controls and automation support for the manufacturing of optical fiber, covering both PC- and PLC-based systems.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to resolve daily production issues related to equipment or control software.
  • Support the commissioning of new equipment for production, from I/O checkout to run readiness.
  • Ensure proper backups of all programs and critical support files are maintained per plant standards.
  • Comply with all applicable safety procedures and ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 HSE guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or a member of management.
What you bring
  • B.S. in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Experience programming Rockwell Allen-Bradley, Schneider, and or Siemens PLCs.
  • Excellent technical problem-solving skills and a bias for action.
  • Ability to contribute to the plant's culture of continuous improvement.
  • Clear, effective communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to work with little supervision.
Preferred experience
  • Background in fiber optic or other highly automated manufacturing processes.
  • PLC programming utilizing IEC languages including Ladder, Sequential function charts, Structured text, and Function Block Diagrams.
  • Familiarity with industrial communications such as Profibus, Ethernet, and Modbus+.
  • HMI programming, including PC-to-PLC transactions and PC-to-Database transactions.
  • Programming and tuning of servo drives and motion controllers.
