Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the WIC Program Director, the Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition education, high-risk case management, and breastfeeding promotion across the ITCN WIC service area. This position ensures compliance with USDA FNS regulations, Nevada WIC policies, and program guidelines. The Nutrition Coordinator will oversee nutrition education initiatives, provide direct participant services, and support staff training and development to improve participant health outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Management & Compliance

  • Ensure all nutrition-related services are implemented in compliance with USDA FNS regulations, state policies, and ITCN WIC
  • Develop and update nutrition education goals, objectives, and procedures for the State
  • Evaluate and revise nutrition and high-risk management protocols as
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating WIC program services and outreach


Nutrition Education & High-Risk Management

  • Conduct nutrition assessments to determine eligibility, identify participant needs, and prescribe tailored food packages in accordance with federal
  • Provide participant-centered education to high-risk individuals and
  • Coordinate and develop nutrition education materials, activities, and group
  • Promote and support breastfeeding as part of participant nutrition care


Training & Technical Assistance

  • Provide ongoing staff training in nutrition assessment, counseling, and high-risk case management.
  • Offer guidance to staff handling complex nutrition
  • Monitor staff performance and assist with new hire onboarding and


Community Engagement & Outreach

  • Plan and coordinate nutrition outreach events in collaboration with tribal, community, and healthcare
  • Represent ITCN WIC at health fairs, community events, and coalition
  • Support social media and public communications to promote nutrition and WIC


WIC Clinic Support

  • Complete WIC certifications, mid-certifications, and other participant appointments after required training.
  • Assist with clinic operations and participant flow as
  • Provide cross-coverage for other WIC roles during staff absences or high-volume


Other Duties

  • Maintain professional credentials and continuing education
  • Attend all relevant training sessions, meetings, and

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition sciences, or related health field (Bachelor's preferred).
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Five years of professional experience working with low- to moderate-income populations preferred.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license with a good driving
  • Must be at least 21 years of

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of nutrition care services, breastfeeding promotion, and public health principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with participants, families, and
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and lead staff
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn WIC clinic
  • Commitment to WIC's mission, vision, and
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with WIC

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Operates in a professional office environment with standard office
  • Requires frequent travel to tribal communities throughout Nevada, including overnight
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and participate in community events indoors and
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for outreach or program
