Certifications: BLS required; Basic Cardiac Rhythm required; ACLS preferred; National certification in Medical-Surgical or Nephrology nursing preferred

Must-Have:
Strong clinical assessment and medical-surgical nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Client
Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills
IV insertion and care, central line management
Wound care and post-operative monitoring experience

Description:

This position is for an RN specializing in MedSurg/Tele.
The facility has 637 licensed beds and is a Level 1 Trauma center.
It is a teaching hospital with designations as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center.
The unit consists of 35 beds, typically with a census of 35 patients.
The RN will care for patients experiencing orthopedic and trauma conditions, including various fractures and head trauma.
Other patients will include those with acute or chronic diseases and post-operative care needs.
Common co-morbidities include diabetes, hypertension, infections, congestive heart failure, and electrolyte imbalances.
Patient ratios are 1 RN to 4-6 patients, with LPNs also at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift.
Duties include care coordination with the interdisciplinary team, discharge planning, and patient education, especially regarding renal and fluid management.
Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and drip titration.
Support within the department includes CNAs for vital signs, glucose checks, feeding, and transporting patients.
There is a dedicated unit secretary during business hours and house-wide coverage overnight.
Phlebotomy is typically handled by the nursing staff.
There is a Resource Nurse available, and respiratory therapy is provided 24/7.
Telemetry monitoring is coordinated through a central telemetry unit.
The hospital employs various technologies and equipment, including EMR systems, IV pumps, and telemetry monitors.
Floating may occur to all adult MedSurg/Telemetry units in-house.
A weekend rotation requires 5-6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule cycle.
Holidays mandate working one shift each major holiday throughout the year.
Requests for time off will be subject to manager approval.
