Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU (MICU) night shift position requiring an active IL license and prior ICU experience with ventilated and hemodynamically unstable patients.

Details
  • Work in a 20-bed Medical ICU within an acute care hospital setting
  • Care for patients with diagnoses such as sepsis, ARDS, pneumonia, AKI, ETOH withdrawal, and overdose
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
  • 12-hour night shifts, scheduled 7:00 pm to 7:30 am
  • Required to work every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights)
  • No on-call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to lower levels of care as needed, with adjusted patient ratios (3 patients on stepdown, 4 patients on general med)
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • Utilizes Phillips telemetry monitors, with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting strips
  • Charge RNs and a 24/7 house supervisor are available on each shift
  • PCT support available at a 1:10 ratio
  • Intensivist coverage in-house approximately 0700-1900, with telemedicine and on-call intensivist support overnight
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Prior MICU or critical care experience required
  • Proficient in EKG strip interpretation
  • Experience with arterial lines and central lines required
  • Skilled in care of ventilated patients
  • Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors and other vasoactive/cardioactive medications required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Additional Information
  • Responsible for titrating a wide variety of vasoactive and cardioactive medications per physician-driven parameters
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy staff on ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment troubleshooting
  • Unit orientation includes 8 hours of EPIC training, 8 hours with a unit educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor
  • Scrubs are not provided and no specific color is required, though sweatshirts are not allowed
  • Holiday coverage is determined by staffing needs at the time
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted, with local rate adjustments applying to those within 50 miles of the facility
