Job description

Salary: $40,800 to $73,904 (Experienced-Based Pay Scale)

Description of Duties

The responsibilities of the middle school math program is divided between two teachers: full-time and part-time. Both teachers will work closely within the middle school team to deliver effective instruction to our multi-age/multi-grade middle school classes. The middle school math curriculum is divided into five levels: Course 1 (foundational), Course 2 (operational), Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Advanced Math. Our program is grounded in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), with adjustments to accommodate the needs of multi-age classrooms. We currently use Math Nation workbooks, which offer an Illustrative Mathematics curriculum that aligns with CCSS while actively engaging students in collaborative learning.


Honey Creek places an emphasis on whole-child education and the development of rich relationships with our students. The full-time teacher will also be responsible for leading a base class of around 20 students, which accounts for roughly 25% of responsibilities. These include leading morning meetings, teambuilding, jobs duties, and overseeing a media center time. Additionally, the full-time teacher is expected to attend a four-day, overnight camp with students in the fall and a four-day overnight camp with 8th graders in the spring.


Requirements:

  • Possesses, or is working towards, a Mathematics (EX) 6-12 teaching certificate through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students emotional intelligence and support students with a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles, using a trauma-informed approach
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement group projects for interactive, integrated, and individualized curriculum areas which incorporate state benchmarks
  • Demonstrated ability to create inquiry-based projects through a justice-centered and service-oriented lens
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a culture of well-being and collaboration for all students with the goal of creating empowered learners, ethical and global citizens, and resilient individuals
  • Demonstrated flexibility and problem solving skills in order to work as a productive team member
  • Understanding and commitment to multi-age groupings
