The College of Science & Mathematics at Rowan University invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Computer Science. This is a 12-month administrative position with an appointment to begin July 1, 2026.
We are seeking a strategic, outcomes-oriented, forward-looking, dynamic leader to foster the continued growth of the Department. With Rowan's commitment to growth and innovation, particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Department of Computer Science is uniquely positioned to drive research initiatives and program development at the intersection of artificial intelligence, life sciences, engineering, and medicine.
The successful candidate will be expected to foster faculty research, build and support innovative undergraduate and graduate programs, and enhance academic, experiential, and entrepreneurial opportunities for students and faculty. The Head will cultivate a positive, inclusive, and collaborative environment within the Department for faculty, staff, and students. The Head is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with a myriad of external and internal collaborators and stakeholders.
The Department of Computer Science is the largest in the College of Science & Mathematics, home to a Ph.D. program in Data Science, as well as three master's programs: MS in Computer Science, M.S. in Data Science, and M.S. in Cybersecurity. Additionally, the department offers a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.S. in Data Science, a B.A. in Computing and Informatics, and a B.A. in Computer System Technologies. The department also offers numerous concentrations, specializations, as well as certificates of undergraduate and graduate studies. Finally, the Computer Science department is developing a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Cybersecurity, both slated to start in Fall 2026. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related field and currently hold the level of Full Professor or have professional experience to warrant an appointment to the rank of Professor with tenure. Preference will be given to individuals with leadership experience overseeing an academic department and mentoring research and teaching faculty. The successful candidate should possess an outstanding record of leadership, program development, strategic budget management, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, overseeing research programs, and mentorship of both students and faculty. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

SALARY
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $165,000.00 to $210,000.00. The University may consider higher compensation above this range based on verified experience, specialized skills, or other job-related factors, consistent with pay equity guidelines. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations."
