Job description

Horton, the nation’s largest homebuilder, complements Forestar’s vision of creating neighborhoods that enhance the lives of community residents while creating value for shareholders, trade partners and employees. .

Forestar Group is currently looking for a Region Financial Planning & Analysis Director - FG. The right candidate will work alongside the Region and Division team to assist with due diligence, forecasting and benchmarking of prospective and existing investments.  Reporting to the Region President, under limited supervision, this individual will provide data and analysis to key strategic, business and financial planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare and monitor monthly rolling forecast and annual budget for the Region's lot banking and development operations
  • Assist Region President in aligning available capital allocations with identified and targeted sub-market deployment
  • Monitor key economic and housing health indices for each market area
  • Provide support for the acquisition, financing, development and disposition process
  • Review financial due diligence and underwriting of prospective acquisitions and developments in coordination with Region and Division teams to determine the financial viability, including review of market data research for selected product mix
  • Prepare and review Division's financial modeling to support and guide acquisition, asset management and capital allocation decisions in coordination with Region President
  • Analyze and monitor the financial performance of properties including financial modeling, benchmarking to budget, and collaborating with management in executing business plans
  • Assess risks and provide recommendations concerning specific investment opportunities based on well-supported documentation and research
  • Partner with the Region and Division team to drive the budget process, conduct monthly detailed cost code level review of active projects (including offsite jobs) in JDE, prepare budget variance analysis, and coordinate with Division team for submitting necessary adjustments
  • Create and update management reports for Region President and Division VP's
  • Provide training and support to Division Real Estate Analysts regarding financial modeling, the budget process and market analysis
  • Maintain a leadership role in a variety of business initiatives supporting simplification, metric performance, business growth and productivity
  • Build and maintain relationships with development partners and home builders across multiple markets
  • Administer and manage databases
  • Assist with business development and scouting new land acquisition opportunities
  • Assist Region and Division team in researching opportunities for establishing operations in new markets
  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  • Ability to travel overnight

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related degree
  • Seven years or more of real estate investment and/or development experience
  • Advanced Excel Financial modeling
  • Proficient in Work, Outlook, Adobe and Power Point
  • Basic knowledge of real estate transactions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize conclusions
  • Presentation skills and ability to effectively deliver project data with clarity
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral form or via Forestar applications

  • Ability to focus under pressure and comfortable meeting tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent critical reasoning, quantitative and analytical skills demonstrated by work experience and/or academic record
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines
