Join EF as a Resident Advisor and gain hands-on experience in leadership, crisis management, event planning, customer service, housing operations, and working with people from more than 50 countries-all while living on campus with room and board included.
Residence Advisors (RAs) at EF have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a highly diverse student population and high-energy staff. This position requires flexibility and requires you to wear many hats, have a proactive mindset, and strong organizational and leadership skills.
RAs have the amazing chance to get to know and work with an incredible population of international students. RAs will work 20 hours or more per week (varied between Days, Nights, and Weekends, in addition to on-call hours 1-2 nights per week, overnight).
Primary responsibilities include helping the students at the reception desk, leading on and off-campus activities, performing administrative tasks, dorm room checks, dormitory duties, plus other duties as assigned by the Housing or Activities department.
Previous Resident Advisor or Residential Life experience is a plus and/or an interest in education, counseling, and international relations.
The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a dual-role position which combines housing and residence life responsibilities while also contributing to our activity program.
You will report to the Housing Director for RA duties and the Activities Manager for Activity Leader tasks.
Responsibilities
Resident Advisor (RA) Duties:
  • Student Supervision: Oversee the daily well-being, safety, and discipline of students in EF residences & Evening Minor Curfew Checks for all students Under 18.
  • Dormitory Management: Conduct weekly room checks, prepare detailed reports, and follow up with the Housing and Maintenance teams on any concerns.
  • Problem Resolution: Act as a resource for students, addressing concerns, complaints, or emergencies effectively and calmly.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with weekend check-ins and check-outs, on-call duties (including overnight emergency phone coverage), and other tasks as assigned by the Housing Coordinator/Director.
  • Community Building: Help create a welcoming and supportive living environment through positive role modeling and leadership.
  • Crisis Management: Lead and manage situations effectively during emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Communication: Keep the Housing management updated on residence issues, conflicts, and student needs.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

Activity Leader Duties:
  • Help plan and lead a variety of on and off campus activities, field trips, and events, such as sports tournaments, day trips, and social gatherings.
  • Assist with the promotion of activities by word-of-mouth, using flyers, social media, and EF platforms to encourage participation.
  • Support the Activities Manager in brainstorming and on continuous improvement of event planning and delivery.
  • Prioritize student safety and ensure a fun, inclusive experience during all activities.
  • Keep the Activities Manager updated on any issues, conflicts, and student feedback.

Candidate Profile
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and confident, with a strong focus on creating a safe and welcoming environment.
  • A natural leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of balancing a variety of responsibilities.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure and make quick decisions in emergencies.
  • Comfortable and enthusiastic leading activities, social events, sport activities and excursions for groups of 30 or more students.
  • Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with Miami and surrounding areas is a bonus.

Schedule and Benefits
  • Start Date: Immediate openings available. Successful candidates will begin as soon as they are hired.
  • Training: Comprehensive training will be provided during your first week to ensure you feel confident and prepared for the role.
  • Work Schedule: This is a part-time, live-in position during the academic year, with schedules generally starting at approximately 20-25 hours per week. Additional hours may be available to cover staff absences, events, activities, and busier operational periods.
    Hours will vary based on operational needs and event schedules and may include early mornings, daytime, evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts.
    During the summer peak season, this position transitions to a full-time schedule of approximately 35-40 hours per week.
  • Compensation: $14.00 per hour, plus full room and board (accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as part of this live-in position.
  • Professional Experience: Gain valuable hands-on experience in student support, housing operations, leadership, crisis management, event planning, and intercultural communication while working with students from around the world.
