Job Title: Field Service Engineer – Flow Meter Systems

Job Description

The Field Service Engineer travels throughout Indiana and parts of Illinois and Ohio to install, maintain, calibrate, and service flow meters used in water and wastewater applications. Working in and around manholes, this role focuses on ensuring accurate data collection on flow through pipes and streams, providing critical documentation for municipalities and large industrial facilities. The position combines mechanical and electrical skills with comfort using technology to troubleshoot and optimize equipment performance in varied indoor and outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Travel throughout Indiana and designated areas of Illinois and Ohio to service flow meter installations within a roughly three-hour radius of the home office.
  • Install flow meters inside the top portion of manholes, ensuring proper placement and secure mounting for accurate measurement.
  • Calibrate flow meters to capture precise data on flow volumes through pipes and streams in water and wastewater systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on flow meters and associated equipment to ensure reliable long-term operation.
  • Connect computers and related devices to flow meters to troubleshoot issues, update settings, and verify performance.
  • Collect, verify, and document flow data for use by municipalities and large industrial customers as part of regulatory and operational reporting.
  • Apply mechanical and electrical knowledge to diagnose and resolve equipment problems in the field.

  • Comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments, including in and around manholes and water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, including overnight stays 1–2 days per week and driving several hours to client sites.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with another employee, particularly an experienced team member.
  • Environmental awareness and interest in water and wastewater systems.
  • Ability to complete assigned field work before returning home, demonstrating reliability and follow-through.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with flow meters is highly preferred.
  • Experience in wastewater environments or related water industry work is a plus.
  • Prior field service or traveling technician experience is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in conditions where equipment, clothing, and gear may become dirty, wet, or exposed to rain and snow.

Work Environment

The environment is hands-on and field-oriented, requiring practical use of mechanical and electrical tools, computers for equipment troubleshooting and calibration, and a readiness to complete the day’s work before returning home.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
