Position Summary

  • There are multiple positions available.

  • The position(s) will be based out of our Philadelphia Branch Office.

  • The hiring team will consider candidates for Trial Attorney II or Senior Trial Attorney positions. Level of position offered will be based on depth and breadth of selected candidates' qualifications and experience.


Represents ERIE and its insureds in litigated matters in Pennsylvania. Handles a diverse caseload involving personal injury, property damage, and other insurance-related disputes. Manages all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represents ERIE and its insureds in civil litigation from inception through trial and appeal.

  • Assesses liability arguments and damages presented and offers timely insights and recommendations to support effective claims resolution. Collaborates with claims professionals, experts, and other stakeholders to ensure effective case management and consistent legal strategy.

  • Conducts discovery; takes depositions; prepares witnesses for testimony; drafts and argues motions, pleadings, and other court filings; and attends court hearings, pretrial conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials.

  • Mentors junior attorneys and contributes to team development through knowledge sharing and collaboration.

  • Participates in training and development programs to enhance litigation and trial advocacy skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Educational Requirements



  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school required.


Additional Experience



  • Ten years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, required.

  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in Pennsylvania, required.

  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in the Federal Courts in Pennsylvania, preferred.

  • Some periodic or overnight travel required



Designations and/or Licenses



  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
