OVERVIEW: The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and agronomic performance of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This position oversees all aspects of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, landscaping, equipment maintenance, and staff supervision to ensure exceptional playing conditions while maintaining environmental stewardship and operating within budget.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan, supervise, and coordinate all golf course maintenance activities, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and landscaped areas.
• Develop and implement agronomic programs for turfgrass management, including fertilization, pest control, disease prevention, aerification, overseeding, and cultural practices.
• Manage and maintain the golf course irrigation system, ensuring efficient water use and optimal turf health.
• Prepare and monitor departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate golf course maintenance staff.
• Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental, safety, and pesticide regulations.
• Coordinate with the Golf Professional, General Manager, and other department leaders to prioritize course conditions and tournament preparations.
• Inspect the golf course daily to identify maintenance needs and ensure high-quality playing conditions.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment and vehicles.
• Manage inventory and purchasing of fertilizers, chemicals, seed, sand, and maintenance supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of pesticide applications, irrigation schedules, equipment maintenance, and budget expenditures.
• Develop and implement long-term improvement plans for the golf course.
• Respond promptly to weather-related issues and emergencies that may affect course conditions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
• Proven experience in golf course maintenance or groundskeeping, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a supervisory or assistant role.
• Knowledge of horticulture, turfgrass science, irrigation systems, and pest management.
• Valid pesticide license or ability to obtain one upon hire (state-specific requirements).
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) or similar organization.
• Experience working at a high-end or private golf club.
• Proficiency with golf course maintenance equipment and technology.
