HVAC Service Technician (On-Call)
Location: Washington, DC & Maryland
Schedule: On-Call | Service Window: 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced HVAC Service Technicians to provide on-call service support across a portfolio of commercial and multifamily residential properties in Washington, DC and Maryland. This role is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of HVAC systems, with occasional support for equipment replacements or new installations.
The ideal candidate is adaptable, professional, and comfortable working in both commercial spaces and occupied apartment environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and on-call preventive maintenance on HVAC systems in commercial buildings and apartment communities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC issues including electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration failures
- Service a variety of equipment, including:
- Rooftop units (RTUs)
- Split systems
- Heat pumps
- Fan coils, air handlers, and package units
- Respond promptly to service calls and emergencies during assigned on-call hours
- Perform residential apartment HVAC service work, including troubleshooting no-heat/no-cool calls and comfort complaints
- Identify repair vs. replacement needs and clearly communicate findings and recommendations
- Assist with HVAC unit replacements and new installations as needed
- Maintain accurate service documentation and communicate job status with management
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, professional work environment
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of HVAC service experience, including commercial and/or multifamily residential systems
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration systems
- Experience performing preventive maintenance programs
- Ability to work independently in occupied apartment units and active commercial environments
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls and thermostats (BAS/BMS exposure a plus)
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
- EPA Universal Certification (required)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong customer-service skills and professional demeanor when interacting with residents and tenants
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience servicing HVAC systems in multifamily apartment buildings
- Familiarity with fan coil units, split systems, and packaged residential equipment
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Local DC or Maryland HVAC licensing, or ability to obtain
- Experience working in occupied spaces with resident-facing service expectations
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working on rooftops, ladders, mechanical rooms, and inside apartment units
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods
