Job description

Position Summary
This job description is intended to convey information important to the scope of this position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated individual to maintain safety and security of our on-mountain lodges and buildings during the summer season. This position requires staying on site overnight for security/on-call purposes. You must have the ability to handle a range of maintenance and caretaking responsibilities indoors and outdoors. In exchange, we offer compensation for all hours worked and a full-time living arrangement on the property.
General Responsibilities:
  • Strong ability to communicate in a timely manner, in the case of an emergency, and with managers, supervisors, employees, residents, guests, etc
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to self motivate and establish clear expectations

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and ensure the cleanliness and safety of the property. This includes and is not limited to: routine cat care, building walkthroughs and reports, fire prevention, septic emergencies, and pest control
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs, such as fuel and sewage monitoring and building and parking lot maintenance. Maintain cleanliness in the employee lodge.
  • Attend safety meetings and trainings
  • Monitor property security daily and maintain security systems. Drive company vehicles as trained.
  • Handle visitor inquiries and aid in public safety incidences
  • Be available during normal operational hours and overnight to respond to urgent property needs or emergencies
  • Manage basic administrative tasks related to property upkeep, such as inventory and supply management
  • Communicate and work with management and other caretakers to maintain and ensure safety and security of facilities. Coordinate with maintenance when repairs are needed. Work with other departments as needed.
  • Be comfortable and motivated to work independently and with little to no supervision once trained

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year working at Mt. Baker Ski Area in some capacity preferred
  • Experience working independently as a property caretaker or in an "on call" position preferred
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • CPR and AED certification, valid Driver's License
  • Strong observation, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as an individual or as a team with minimal supervision
  • Must be comfortable living on-site in provided accommodation

Preferred Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Work responsibly and safely
  • Availability to work flexible hours as needed
  • Previous experience in property maintenance, caretaking, camp hosting, or a related field is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including light repairs and groundskeeping
  • Strong observation, communication and customer service skills

Wage & Hour Information:
  • Starting rate ranges from $20-23/hr with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 15-40+ hours/week. Expected dates of this position are 2025/26 winter closing day - 2026/27 winter opening day.
  • This position may be combined with winter seasonal positions.

Scheduling Requirements:
This position requires working one of two on-site schedule rotations to ensure continuous coverage:
  • Thursday evening-Monday morning
  • Sunday evening-Thursday evening

Requirements
Physical Requirements: Working in the mountain environment is physically demanding. You need to be in good health and in good physical condition and have the ability to perform the following:
  • Bending, twisting, lifting, and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather
  • Ability to lift and move 60 pounds (or more depending on the task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Climbing and descending stairs
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary

Training Requirements:
  • Annual training provided by Mt. Baker Ski Area must be completed as a condition of position employment.

  • Department Trainings as assigned
  • Safety Trainings as assigned

Employment in caretaker positions is contingent upon the successful completion and review of a background screening. Applicants listed on the National Sex Offender Registry are not eligible for employment in this position.
On-Mountain Dorm Living (Required for this Position)
You must remain on site the night before and between each shift
