The OpportunityWe're seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with an active PE and 7+ years of relevant experience to lead and execute complex industrial projects. You'll serve as technical lead on multi‑discipline teams, develop power and controls designs, mentor engineers/designers, and interface directly with clients from front‑end engineering design (FEED) through commissioning.
Responsibilities:
Project & Technical Leadership
Act as electrical lead on EPCM and design‑bid‑build projects-owning scope, budget, schedule, quality, and safety deliverables.
Develop and/or review single‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, cable schedules, load lists, motor and MCC schedules, and panel layouts.
Perform and stamp power systems studies (short‑circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, motor starting) and specify protective relays and settings.
Specify and design medium‑ and low‑voltage power distribution (switchgear, transformers, MCCs, VFDs), grounding, lighting, and lightning protection for industrial facilities.
Lead controls & instrumentation architecture: PLC/PAC/RTU selection, I/O allocation, control narratives, P&ID alignment, and network/SCADA topologies; collaborate with PSE's UL 508A panel shop for build‑to‑print packages and FAT/SAT.
Generate disciplined deliverables: calculations, specifications, data sheets, procurement packages, and construction IFC drawings; support RFI, submittal reviews, and field changes.
Mentor junior engineers/designers; perform thorough QA/QC of calculations and drawings.
Field & Commissioning
Provide site assessments, constructability reviews, installation oversight, and start‑up/commissioning support (loop checks, point‑to‑point, functional testing, energization).
Client Engagement
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients in mining & metals, petrochemical/refining, food processing, and power; translate operational objectives into practical designs. Be client facing and interface with existing and new clients.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering (ABET‑accredited).
Active U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical (or ability to obtain Utah comity within 6 months).
7+ years of progressively responsible electrical engineering experience in industrial facilities (design and field).
Proven experience with industrial power distribution (MV/LV), motor control, drives, and protective relaying; proficiency in power systems study tools (e.g., SKM PTW or ETAP).
Hands‑on exposure to PLC/SCADA architectures and collaboration with UL 508A panel fabrication.
Working knowledge of applicable codes/standards: NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, ISA, NESC, and utility interconnection requirements.
Strong communication skills with demonstrated client‑facing experience and cross‑discipline coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
Sector experience in mining & minerals processing (materials handling, crushing/grinding, dust collection), refining/petrochemical, food & allied services, and power generation/distribution projects.
Commissioning/startup leadership; familiarity with arc‑flash mitigation, selective coordination, and reliability/maintainability best practices.
Experience with AutoCAD and electrical design highly favorable.
