The City of Sun Prairie, WI (pop 33,966) is looking for Election Officials (formerly called Poll Workers) to facilitate the right to vote and maintain order at the polls on Election Day. Election Officials ensure that our elections are open, fair, impartial, and trusted.
Starting Pay
Election Official - $16/hr
Election Office Assistant - $18/hr
Certified Election Official - $18/hr
Chief Inspector - $21/hr
Essential Job Functions
  • Assist in greeting voters and establish they are at the correct voting location
  • Ensure voters have the correct documents to register to vote and receive their ballot
  • Set up the polling place
  • Register voters and check in voters that are already registered
  • Issue ballots
  • Process absentee ballots
  • Monitor election equipment
  • Tally write-in votes
  • Open and close the polls
  • Provide a positive voting experience for all voters

Requirements of Work
  • Be an eligible voter in Dane County (an adult U.S. citizen who has resided in Dane County for at least 10 days, and not disqualified from voting)
  • Be comfortable with using a computer
  • Must not currently be on probation, parole, or supervision for a felony conviction
  • Ability to attend training prior to each election
  • Ability to effectively work well with multicultural populations
  • Pay close attention to detail
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Be capable of performing each task at the polling place
  • Work well with others
  • Perform duties in a non-partisan manner
  • Abide by state and federal election laws
  • Never engage in electioneering at the polling place
  • Treat all voters, Election Officials, and Clerk's Office employees with respect
  • Be free from the influence of alcohol and/or drugs while at the polls
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Work is performed under general office conditions
  • May periodically lift, push, and move equipment and boxes weighing up to 20 pounds from floor to table
