Job description

Looking for a unique summer job that will stand out on your resume?
Join EF as a Resident Advisor and gain hands-on experience in leadership, crisis management, event planning, customer service, housing operations, and working with people from more than 50 countries-all while living on campus with room and board included.
Residence Advisors (RAs) at EF have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a highly diverse student population and high-energy staff. This position requires flexibility and requires you to wear many hats, have a proactive mindset, and strong organizational and leadership skills.
RAs have the amazing chance to get to know and work with an incredible population of international students. RAs will work 20 hours or more per week (varied between Days, Nights, and Weekends, in addition to on-call hours 1-2 nights per week, overnight).
Primary responsibilities include helping the students at the reception desk, leading on and off-campus activities, performing administrative tasks, dorm room checks, dormitory duties, plus other duties as assigned by the Housing or Activities department.
Previous Resident Advisor or Residential Life experience is a plus and/or an interest in education, counseling, and international relations.
The Resident Assistant (RA) position is a dual-role position which combines housing and residence life responsibilities while also contributing to our activity program.
You will report to the Housing Director for RA duties and the Activities Manager for Activity Leader tasks.
Responsibilities
Resident Advisor (RA) Duties:
  • Student Supervision: Oversee the daily well-being, safety, and discipline of students in EF residences & Evening Minor Curfew Checks for all students Under 18.
  • Dormitory Management: Conduct weekly room checks, prepare detailed reports, and follow up with the Housing and Maintenance teams on any concerns.
  • Problem Resolution: Act as a resource for students, addressing concerns, complaints, or emergencies effectively and calmly.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with weekend check-ins and check-outs, on-call duties (including overnight emergency phone coverage), and other tasks as assigned by the Housing Coordinator/Director.
  • Community Building: Help create a welcoming and supportive living environment through positive role modeling and leadership.
  • Crisis Management: Lead and manage situations effectively during emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Communication: Keep the Housing management updated on residence issues, conflicts, and student needs.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

Activity Leader Duties:
  • Help plan and lead a variety of on and off campus activities, field trips, and events, such as sports tournaments, day trips, and social gatherings.
  • Assist with the promotion of activities by word-of-mouth, using flyers, social media, and EF platforms to encourage participation.
  • Support the Activities Manager in brainstorming and on continuous improvement of event planning and delivery.
  • Prioritize student safety and ensure a fun, inclusive experience during all activities.
  • Keep the Activities Manager updated on any issues, conflicts, and student feedback.

Candidate Profile
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and confident, with a strong focus on creating a safe and welcoming environment.
  • A natural leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of balancing a variety of responsibilities.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure and make quick decisions in emergencies.
  • Comfortable and enthusiastic leading activities, social events, sport activities and excursions for groups of 30 or more students.
  • Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with Miami and surrounding areas is a bonus.

Schedule and Benefits
  • Start Date: Immediate openings available. Successful candidates will begin as soon as they are hired.
  • Training: Comprehensive training will be provided during your first week to ensure you feel confident and prepared for the role.
  • Work Schedule: This is a part-time, live-in position. During our peak summer season, team members can expect to work approximately 30-40 hours per week, including a combination of mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional on-call shifts, depending on operational needs and the student activity schedule.
  • Position Duration: The seasonal position runs through the beginning of September. There may be opportunities to extend employment beyond the summer based on operational needs and performance.
  • Compensation: $14.00 per hour, plus full room and board (accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as part of this live-in position.
  • Accommodation: Please note that accommodations are provided on campus. Depending on occupancy and operational needs, there may be the possibility of sharing a room with another seasonal staff member.
  • Professional Experience: Gain valuable hands-on experience in student support, housing operations, leadership, crisis management, event planning, and intercultural communication while working with students from around the world.

About Us
Some companies are in the business of banking. Others are in the business of shoes. Or sports. Or soft drinks. At EF, we're in a different kind of business. One that's a little less tangible, and a lot more important. Because our business, what we make, makes everything else possible. We're in the business of understanding. Between people. Between cultures.
For over half a century we've been the leader in international educational programs and experiences designed to foster such understanding. Through language, cultural exchange, academic studies, and educational travel, we create the kinds of immersive experiences that challenge biases, open minds, and pave the way for a more understanding world.
You'll find our offices and schools located in some of the world's greatest cities, and filled with smart, driven people (over 50,000 of us) who push each other to be better every day. But it's what we do together - building greater understanding, breaking down barriers, and creating a better world - that makes all the difference.
Founded in 1965 in Sweden, EF (Education First) is a global association of education companies that share a common mission of opening the world through education.
