RUN Studios, in partnership with one of our leading corporate clients, is looking for a Broadcast Transmission Technician to join our collaborative Redmond-based team. This role is ideal for a versatile production professional who thrives in fast-paced studio environments and enjoys working across a wide range of production scenarios.
The Broadcast Transmission Technician is responsible for supporting the booking, scheduling, and facilitating transmission, streaming, tape op and in-room tech support for live events. Role also assists in supporting remote broadcast needs at Tier 1 corporate events. Additional responsibilities include configuring, testing and running of broadcast equipment.
As a Broadcast Transmission Technician, You Will
  • Schedule and facilitate setup and operation of live events with captioning, transmission, tape operation and streaming components.
  • Work daily with Dream Catcher or EVS record/playback systems.
  • Configure broadcast equipment such as Haivision, LiveU, Fiber for use, test and maintain as process dictates.
  • Up to date knowledge and support of the Webcasting and Transmission business lines.

In This Role, You Bring
  • 1-2 years of technical experience in the production industry.
  • Experience with event media playback technology.
  • Experience in streaming player technologies and frameworks.
  • Experience with Azure Media Services.
  • Experience with captioning formats for live broadcast, web delivery, on-demand, and in-room displays.
  • Understanding of digital media artifacts and their likely causes / solutions.
  • Proficiency with digital streaming file formats (wrappers) including Smooth, HLS, Flash, DASH, mp4.
  • Proficiency in digital media fundamentals (frame rates, bandwidth, progressive vs. interlaced, aspect ratios, frame size, resolution, sample rates, time code, etc.).
  • Basic editing knowledge (trimming, fades, audio syncing).
  • Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) operational understanding.
  • Familiarity with video transmission technologies and equipment including fiber encoders / decoders, Satellite dishes and receivers, RTMP, transport streams.
  • An understanding of broadcast transmission environments, equipment and infrastructure. Able to quickly isolate issues in a video signal path.
  • Experience working with data networks.

Bonus if You Have
  • Experience with Content Delivery Network Configuration and Management.
  • Transmission Design, Diagramming and Management (Visio) skills.
  • Resource and Communication Management experience for live workflows.
  • Testing experience/lab work related to new media technologies, services, and solutions.
  • Understanding of satellite transmission and downlink processes.
  • On-Demand Media Content Publishing experience.
  • Signal QC, Testing, Monitoring and Troubleshooting best practices.
  • Involvement with DDR Playback Software and VTR Operation (Record, Playback).
  • Involvement in Web Delivery Technologies (HTML5, MMP/Azure, Flash, DRM, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Encoder / Decoder maintenance.
  • Broadcast Playout System Management (Miranda ITX) experience.

  • Work Environment
    • Primarily onsite with chances of hybrid work as dependent on schedule.
    • 4 days in office at 10 hours each day.
    • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays & possible overnight shifts.

Compensation
Pay Range: $92,000 - $110,000 / year
The successful candidate's pay will be based on various factors such as individual qualifications and work location.
