Job description

Cerro Alto Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital

Cerro Alto Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital is a privately owned, non-corporate specialty and emergency hospital built around collaboration, growth, and doing high-level medicine the right way.

We are seeking an Oncology Veterinary Technician who is excited to be part of a team-first environment, contribute to advanced patient care, and continue developing their skill set alongside specialists in a supportive and fast-growing hospital.

This is an ideal role for someone who values autonomy, learning, and meaningful involvement in patient care, rather than a task-based, corporate workflow.

What Makes This Role Different
  • Non-corporate, veterinarian-led hospital — decisions are made locally, by clinicians who are in the building
  • Highly collaborative environment — work directly with surgery, internal medicine, ER, radiology, and oncology
  • Growth-focused culture — we actively invest in training, mentorship, and skill development
  • Hands-on medicine — technicians are trusted and empowered to fully utilize their training
  • Advanced case exposure — complex oncology cases with access to cutting-edge diagnostics and treatments
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Oncology Treatment
  • Assist in the safe administration of chemotherapy and targeted therapies
  • Monitor patients closely for treatment response and adverse effects
  • Provide high-quality nursing care, including pain management and supportive care
  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records
Technical Skills
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and sample collection
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures and imaging preparation
  • Prepare and administer medications, including chemotherapy and CRIs
  • Follow strict protocols for handling hazardous drugs and maintaining safety standards
Client Communication
  • Educate clients on treatment plans, expectations, and potential side effects
  • Provide clear, compassionate discharge instructions and follow-up guidance
  • Support clients through complex and emotional decision-making processes
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with oncologists and other specialty services to coordinate care
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented hospital culture
  • Assist in maintaining efficient patient flow and case management
Why Cerro Alto

We're building something intentional here—a hospital where people enjoy coming to work, where technicians are valued for their expertise, and where patient care benefits from true collaboration across services.

If you're looking for a place where you can grow, be challenged, and be part of a genuinely supportive team, we'd love to connect.

  • Weekend Differential: +$3.00/hour for hours worked between Friday at 8:00 PM and Monday at 6:00 AM

These differentials are separate and cumulative. Team members working eligible overnight hours during the weekend differential period may earn both differentials, providing the opportunity to earn up to an additional $6.00/hour above their base rate.

Requirements

  • RVT license
  • Experience in oncology, internal medicine, or ER strongly preferred
  • Strong technical skill set and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-first mindset
Growth & Development
  • Ongoing mentorship from board-certified specialists
  • Exposure to advanced procedures and evolving oncology therapies
  • Opportunities to expand technical responsibilities over time

This is a full time role, mostly during days. We work 10 hour shifts and full time requires committing to 3-4 shifts per week. We are a 7/24 hospital that never closes so we ask all of our team members to be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
