Job description

The Opportunity
Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time, mid-level, Responder / Environmental Scientist, Engineer for our Denver, CO office. This is not a remote position.
Position Summary
The selected candidate will join a growing and energetic team supporting environmental projects in the Rocky Mountain region of the U.S. This is a great opportunity to be involved in all facets of environmental management.
Essential Job Functions (Required)
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
• Support and lead field work for Federal and Private clients, including project management, budgeting, and scheduling.
• Provide technical support to a long-term U.S. Environmental Protection Agency contract in the areas of site investigation, Brownfields redevelopment, removal assessment, data management, and emergency response.
• Work includes a broad range of site types from abandoned properties to mine sites, to industrial/commercial facilities, orphaned wells, to spills - with work locations across Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
• Oversee and conduct multi-media sampling, field audits and inspections, use of a range of field monitoring equipment, organizing and reviewing data, preparing reports and maps, file reviews, collection of air monitoring data, training and exercise support, contractor oversight, task and project management, and related services.
• Lead a field team, including leading health and safety activities, sampling, and data collection and reporting.
• Perform tasks across multiple disciplines to bring about successful project completion
• Demonstrate full knowledge of each project's status and goals
• Emergency response work includes mobilizing to spill or response sites and work with EPA and other parties to support air monitoring, sampling, communications support, and data management.
• Understand and use of environmental monitoring equipment
• Work in Levels A, B, C and D PPE

Required Qualifications (Required)
• B.S./B.A. in Geology, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Geography or other related environmental science
• Years of Experience: 7+ years
• The position requires periodic on-call support, up to two weeks per month. The ability to respond quickly, within a mandatory response time, is required.
• Ability to travel, including overnight and weekends.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, coordinate, analyze, and present technical material.
• Excellent writing skills that include the ability to read and assimilate technical and scientific information.
• Ability to learn quickly and multi-task.
• Highly motivated, customer focused
• Work well in a team environment.
• Ability to work independently and under direct on-site supervision.
• Ability to manage a heavy workload
• Excellent communication, client interaction, and organizational skills.
• Strong educational and work foundation
• Ability to wear Level D-B PPE
In addition, the following is required:
• Background check
Preferred Qualifications
• 40-hour OSHA HAWOPER training
• Completion of ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 training
• Asbestos and lead certification
You will preferably have experience with some or all of the following:
• Hydrogeological investigations
• Hazardous materials surveys (including asbestos, lead-based paint)
• Analytical data using spreadsheets and databases
• Conceptual remedial action plans and remedial cost estimates
• Phase I ESAs to ASTM or higher standards
• Phase II ESAs
• Mastery with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) is strongly desired.
• Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) is preferred but not required.
Work Environment/Environmental Factors (Required)
This position requires up to 70% travel to support environmental emergency response situations throughout the Mountain Region, on short notice, where the applicant will be a part of field teams and provide technical support to EPA personnel at a range of site investigation and response sites.
You must be able to mobilize for emergency response efforts from our warehouse in Arvada, CO within 2 hours when you are on-call. Periodic on-call support is up to two weeks per month. The ability to respond quickly, within a mandatory response time, is required.
Physical Requirements (Required)
The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
• Walk on uneven terrain
• Lift and carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
• Wear and work in an air purifying respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
• Work periodic long days, including 12+ hours, especially when in the field, including evenings and weekends.
• Work outside in all weather conditions, both hot and cold and inclement weather
• Work around or with chemical and biological hazards.
• Drive on a regular basis.
• Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Additional Information (Required)
• Work schedule: Primarily Monday - Friday, but will include evenings and weekends as necessary, 40+ hours/week.
• Overtime requirements: Yes, when necessary, including 12+ hours/day when in the field
• Night/weekend requirements: Yes
• Work locations: Primarily in our Denver, CO office with up to 70% field work at various locations. Some work occurs at off-site locations as necessary such as our equipment warehouse in Arvada, CO.
• Travel requirements: up to 70% travel
• Other: This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion

The Salary Range for this position is $71,000 - $84,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
