Amazon Prime Air (PA) is seeking a Product Support Engineering (PSO) Reliability Engineer to drive development of system (hardware and software) functionality and investigate issues to drive improved reliability within our ultra-fast drone delivery operations.
This role will be responsible for ensuring a high degree of technical reliability within drone operations, working closely with design engineering teams and powering a flywheel of continuous improvement in the drone system design. Partnering with the drone system operations and various engineering disciplines, you will provide engineering analyses and solutions to improve the system reliability and performance. A successful candidate will leverage data-driven insights to identify opportunities and lead implementation of system improvements.
You should have a good understanding of system reliability statistics/reliability testing and/or solid understanding of electrical and robotic products to influence design for reliability to:
- Identify and validate product risks, including but not limited to electrical system, mechanical system, and work with design teams to mitigate them
- Define test methodology and test coverage to assure product reliability
- Ability to provide hands-on experimental design and execution
- Perform reliability prediction of failure mechanisms on products under development and products in the field
This role is a member of the PA Product Support Organization (PSO) Engineering team, serving as a reliability engineer positioned across the system experiences, design engineering improvements, and business recommendations to improve fleet reliability. In this position, you will bring a unique perspective informed by system data and customer feedback to spearhead system improvements, and address engineering problems discovered in the field. Strong cross-functional engineering fundamentals (mechanical, electrical, software development basics) skills are essential, as well as strong technical communication and documentation skills. Your ability to translate complex system functions into digestible insights and summarize effectively with stakeholders at all levels will be critical to success in this role.
This position may require a deemed export control for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon's ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.
Key job responsibilities
- Investigate drone system performance for anomalies, deliver solutions to operations and maintenance team escalations
- Lead cross-functional system investigations with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to optimize drone system performance metrics, and drive improvements
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven insights to establish benchmark standards and reduce operational burden
- Deliver measurable system behavior improvements based on data analysis that impacts customer experience, proactively engaging stakeholders to advocate for customers
- Communicate effectively across all organizational levels, presenting strategies and results to senior leadership and operational partners
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline
- Experience in robotics design, automation systems development, control systems design, or related product development
- Experience in data analysis and leveraging analytics to make decisions
- 5+ years of equivalent experience
- Experience troubleshooting and identifying the root cause of issues
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in systems engineering
- Experience in hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
