Senior Customer Service Representative - Ocean Shipping


Office Location: 774 South Shelmore Boulevard Suite 101, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464

On-site role 8:30am-5pm Mon-Fri (w/1 hour lunch)

Department Overview:
Within our organization, a section of the customer service team is responsible for following up on export cargoes to determine that the shipment will connect with the booked vessel. In addition, they handle special document process (such as dangerous goods) along with ad hoc exception cases. The ideal candidate applies critical thinking to complex situations to determine appropriate direction and actions. Strong problem solving, verbal and written communication capabilities along with Microsoft Office skills are desirable. This position will have the opportunity to work with multiple departments in the company to achieve problem resolution and gain knowledge of the ocean transportation industry.

Senior Customer Service Representative Job Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to identify and manage shipment exceptions for export bookings.
  • Communicate cross functionally to resolve issues and manage customer expectations.
  • Assess and validate shipment documents for regulatory adherence and update internal system as needed.
  • Work directly with customers on discrepancies and exceptions.
  • Additional ad-hoc projects as assigned by management.

Preferred skills (not required):

  • Knowledge of customer service processes and exception handling
  • Understanding of US Regulatory Transportation and IMDG Requirements (Customs, DOT, Hazardous, IMDG, etc.)
  • Experience with ocean, terminal and rail operations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, time management and adaptable
  • Attention to detail

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum 2 years of relevant working experience OR
  • No degree and a minimum of 4 years' relevant working experience
  • Experience in problem resolution
  • Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
