VCMC is a fully-integrated, comprehensive system of hospital, clinic and specialty services. The system provides access to health care to all residents of our county, with special emphasis on providing access to care for the underserved and those facing barriers. Santa Paula Hospital offers a comprehensive list of inpatient and outpatient services and full-service departments for diagnostic procedure, treatment, aftercare and ongoing care.

The Position: The Ventura County Health Care Agency is seeking experienced Registered Nurses for the Float Unit to provide staffing support in the Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Critical Care specialty areas at Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) and/or Santa Paula Hospital. The Registered Nurse II is the experienced-level classification in professional nursing and performs the full range of nursing duties while exercising independent clinical judgment within established nursing standards, procedures, and physician orders. Incumbents are expected to work at the full scope of their licensure, applying intermediate assessment skills, sound clinical decision-making, and adherence to patient privacy, confidentiality, and security guidelines. As experience increases, they are expected to perform their duties with a decreasing amount of supervision.

The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is a compassionate and clinically proficient Registered Nurse with recent acute care hospital experience. They demonstrate strong assessment, critical thinking, and patient care skills, with a thorough knowledge of professional nursing practices, medications, medical terminology, and hospital procedures. The successful candidate effectively plans, implements, evaluates, and documents patient care; monitors patient conditions; administers treatments and medications; and collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. They are able to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, exercise sound clinical judgment, maintain patient confidentiality, communicate effectively, and establish positive relationships with patients, families, and staff. They also support the training of new and ancillary personnel, maintain required certifications, and adapt to varying assignments, departments, and shifts while consistently providing safe, patient-centered care.

Float Pool Assignments: Float Pool assignments will be flexibly staffed within a specialty unit or cluster providing additional support across both VCMC and Santa Paula Hospital campuses. Candidates assigned to Float Pool will not be regularly assigned to any designated unit, but instead will work in two (2) specialty units/clusters designated as:

  1. Medical/Surgery (MS3), Telemetry Units (MS1 & ICU1) & Admitted patients holding in ED (ED holds)
  2. Intensive Care Unit, DOU, PACU, IR, Admitted patients holding in ED (ED holds)

Depending upon area of assignment, additional specialty experience and/or certification(s) may be required.
