Summary
This position is located at Fort Lee, VA - MWR Outdoor Recreation.

Duties
Help
  • Instructs groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs, such as but not limited to rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, challenge course.
  • Teaches children as well as adults. Incumbent is responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers.
  • Reports any problems to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as soon as possible in order to maintain a high quality service to guests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Must be able to work during the hours of operation to include nights and weekends.
  • The dual compensation guidelines DO NOT apply to this position. All GS and NAF employees whether fulltime or part time are eligible to apply for this position.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training certification.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required for this position.

Qualifications
Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.
A qualified candidate must possess the following:
  1. Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":
  • Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and in the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program.
  • Applicants with previous experience working a minimum 6 months programming outdoor recreation activities.

  • This job is open to candidates who who reside within a 30-mile radius of Fort Lee. (Military Spouses moving to the area within 30 days from the closing date of this announcement and Involuntarily Separated Military (ISM) members claiming ISM Preference are included in this area of consideration.)

  • This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
