KTVN 2 News Nevada – Reno, NV

Position Overview

The News Anchor/Reporter plays a key role in delivering trusted, engaging journalism to the 2 News Nevada audience. This position anchors and reports on daily newscasts, handles breaking news with professionalism, and serves as a visible representative of the station within the Northern Nevada community. The role supports KTVN’s mission of “Coverage You Can Count On.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Anchor live newscasts with clear, confident, and engaging delivery
  • Write broadcast-style copy and report enterprise stories for multiple newscasts
  • Respond calmly and decisively during breaking news situations
  • Collaborate with producers, photographers, and the assignment desk on story content and priorities
  • Develop story ideas and plan coverage for ratings periods
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders and organizations
  • Represent KTVN through community appearances and involvement

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a newsroom leader by providing guidance and professional input to photographers and producers
  • Help motivate the newsroom and contribute positively to newsroom culture
  • Take initiative when additional newsroom support is needed

Qualifications

  • Strong on-air presence with the ability to present news clearly and conversationally
  • Excellent writing skills for broadcast journalism
  • Ethical, fair, well-spoken, and personable
  • Comfortable working live on television and under deadline pressure
  • Ability to learn video editing and newsroom technology
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field preferred (high school diploma required)
  • Minimum one year of anchoring and reporting experience preferred
  • A valid driver’s license, clean motor vehicle record, and reliable daily access to a personal vehicle are required. This position involved frequent local travel throughout the station’s listening/viewership area to meet with prospective and current clients.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Newsroom operates 24/7
  • Position may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during breaking news
  • Position requires frequent walking, including navigation of uneven outdoor terrain; presence at crime scenes and other active incident locations requiring continuous vigilance, situational awareness, and attention to safety; and the ability to carry and transport up to 30 pounds of equipment.
