I. Summary
Outdoor Engagement Specialist I reports directly to the SOS manager, This position will provide direct service to individuals who utilize the Human Services Campus by way of outreach and engagement to seek specifically to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with permanent housing, physical and mental health services, and other necessary resources to assist in ending their homelessness.
II. Essential Functions
  • Customer Service essential; committed to treating all clients, visitors and staff with dignity and respect
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive information to clients
  • Effective communication skills
  • Participate in mandatory trainings and weekly meetings
  • Maintain organized work area
  • Monitor and adhere to process of charging station in day room operations (cell phones, medical chairs etc.)
  • Participate in station rotation (showers, storage, front desk greeter)
  • Keep up on inventory needs during opening and closing shifts at front desk.
  • Enforce all employee and campus policies and procedures
  • Engage clients with a welcoming and positive attitude
  • Update resources regularly to ensure accurate information distribution
  • Apply critical thinking in finding quick solutions to individual homelessness
  • Assist clients that are assigned to navigators/case managers with document collecting and uploading into HMIS when those staff are offsite
  • Scan and read important HMIS alerts for client information
III. Minimum Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; a minimum of 1-year relevant employment experience preferred, knowledge of homeless resources and the ability to work with individuals with diverse needs.
Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally, work as a team player and at times, independently; the ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a calm demeanor in high stress situations. Must demonstrate personal responsibility and integrity, show initiative and an ability to work independently; with a sensitivity to cultural diversity, lifestyle understanding is essential.

  2. Written and verbal communication skills (Spanish a plus).
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, clients, and other external contacts.
  4. Ability to handle sensitive material, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and displaying sound judgment.
  5. Valid Driver's License/Clean 3-year MVR
  6. Mobility sufficient to conduct regular duties within a normal office environment.
  7. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds in order to safely manage office supplies and equipment.
  8. Provide a valid fingerprint clearance card on the first day of employment.
