Job Summary
The Outdoor Adventures Student Assistant supports the Wellness and Recreation department by facilitating outdoor recreation clinics and workshops, assisting participants, and maintaining equipment and safety standards. This role involves direct interaction with students, staff, and faculty while promoting outdoor activities, leading group experiences, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all participants.
Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality customer service to all participants
  • Assist with equipment rentals, trip registrations, and clinic and workshop sign-ups
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventory, logs, and usage records
  • Promote Outdoor Adventures programs through outreach and engagement
  • Support and instruct outdoor skills clinics and workshops
  • Lead group activities and experiential learning sessions
  • Ensure proper fitting, use, and education of outdoor gear
  • Participate in all required training, including passing written and practical evaluations
  • Assist with departmental events and additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled a minimum of 6 credits at Georgia Gwinnett College
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment
  • Must be in good conduct standing with Georgia Gwinnett College and maintain good standing for the duration of employment
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Strong interest in outdoor recreation
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in outdoor activities (e.g., hiking, backpacking, kayaking, climbing, cycling)
  • Prior leadership or group facilitation experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Consistently exhibit engaging customer service
  • Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Adhere to Georgia Gwinnett College policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support the college's mission for student success
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
